This architecturally designed ADU is located on the Piedmont side of Montclair. Conveniently located in a woodland setting, it is close to public transportation and an easy walk to Montclair Village shops, banks, and restaurants. This unique unit includes heating and air conditioning and Miele washer and dryer. The gourmet kitchen is equipped with a Bosch appliances --dishwasher, gas range, microwave, disposal, refrigerator. There is a dedicated WiFi access point in the ADU, with a Gigabit fiber Internet backbone. The Internet is high speed wired and wireless. There is no TV, but bring your own streaming device and connect to the Internet to watch your favorite TV shows and movies.

Fabulous place! Gail and Greg were welcoming, kind, and very responsive. I thoroughly enjoyed my 8-night stay in their modern ADU which is situated in the beautiful hills of Oakland's Montclair neighborhood. The ADU is generously resourced and offers a tranquil, very clean, and cozy place to land. Montclair Village (with restaurants, groceries, and shops) is only a 5-minute walk down the hill and there is easy freeway access. I would happily stay here again!

A gem!

We were delighted to find this super clean, well supplied unit available within a mile of our family in Piedmont! It is a separate small building at the top of the gorgeous garden in the backyard of the main house. We had anticipated parking being a problem, but it wasn't! During the day it is a little more limited than in the evening though. The space was practically new and just right for two adults. The kitchen was tight but well organized - with special coffee machines if you are coffee drinkers. Laundry machines were under the counter in the kitchen - great to have! If you are very short, you will need to use the supplied step stool to reach some cupboards. Great lighting and wonderful windows made this place special. We hope to return to this perfect little spot on future trips to Piedmont/Montclair!

Couldn’t Ask for Better Hosts

Greg and Gail’s ADU exceeded our expectations. The listing is accurate, and doesn’t do the property justice! I almost hate to write this review because I don’t want this listing to be booked the next time we are in town! The ADU is conveniently located near restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, you name it. Everything is within walking distance. Greg and Gail are wonderful hosts! After spending three weeks in their unit, we feel like we have gained new friends. My boyfriend and I got engaged while there, and Gail and Greg joined us in celebrating with a bottle of champagne. Their thoughtfulness can also be felt in the unit with all of the amenities and personal touches. My fiancĂ© and I definitely hope to return in the future!

Peaceful sanctuary

Staying here was like my own high-end, relaxed treehouse. Designed with beauty and efficient functionality, you are immediately comfortable and settle into your private world for your stay. The open floor plan features an entire floor to ceiling wall of windows which slide open to a wooden deck. The view is devoid of houses and with the slider open you hear the neighboring birds calling out. It was the perfect sanctuary for me as I oversaw the last week of my house renovations – escaping chaos for private calm. The kitchen was stocked with high quality implements every cook loves and the range was a dream. The meandering path up to the ADU provided a vegetation exploration of fun trees, plants and veggies – eye candy for gardeners. And if you are lucky, you will occasionally bump into Greg, Gail and/or Chewey for a quick chat (and pet in Chewey’s case) – great way to start the day! It is a short walk to Montclair Village providing easy access to varied restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, essentials (groceries, banking, drug stores) and even spa services! Wonderful hiking along the ridge of the East Bay hills is fantastic through the park system. And San Francisco is ~25 minutes away if so inclined. This location is on my “keeper list” for visitors
 or even a getaway when I need it again.

A truly wonderful place to stay

From top to bottom, everything about our stay at this property was great. From the big picture things like check in/check-out details to the small add-ons like a wine bottle and freshly ground coffee beans, our stay here was top notch. It is clear a lot of intention went into creating the guest house and the experiences of the guests. This property came with more than I have had in a similarly priced hotels/bnbs. The kitchen had plenty of equipment to appropriately cook home meals with as well as nice utensils and silver ware. Although, a few notes: if the oven is on, trying to light one of the gas burners causes all of them to try and light at the same time; and, the space is small, so cooking anything slightly smokey is likely to set the smoke alarm off (opening the doors, windows, and using the microwave fan helped). The living room's floor to ceiling sliding doors were nice enough but the mechanically operated curtains were an unexpected cherry on top. The bedroom's simplicity was perfect for the space -- a comfortable bed, sky lights, and plenty of outlets and endtable space. The space also has a medium-sized closet with a hamper, vacuum, extra-bedding for the pullout couch, and plenty of hangers and space to put your clothes. The bathroom was clean and updated; equipped with shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, body wash, three different types of towels including one for your face, and plenty of space to hang. The host were very responsive and accommodating.

beautiful, light-filled private and spacious zen-like retreat

I am completely smitten with this place and the owners who live in the front house. I spent 3 weeks surrounded by mature trees and gorgeous gardens in a new ADU, architecturally designed and professionally interior designed—constructed at the opposite end of the property with everything you could wish for to make your stay comfortable, down to Alexa powered shades and music. Cosy couch, check. (good for napping) Cosy bed, check. Cooks kitchen with highest quality appliances, check. Entire wall of ceiling-high sliding glass doors looks out onto the forested hillside. Sunny front deck, view of garden and hills of Montclair. Birdsong every morning. I got lucky and heard owls one night. Walk in closet with everything you will need to be comfy, clean, and organized. Bath with walk in shower with hot water on demand. Impeccably clean, new construction in the past 2 years. Gail and Greg were down to earth friendly, professional, and gave me complete privacy and were also available if needed. We discovered we had friends in common, and also gardening interests. Just minutes to Berkeley and Oakland. Beyond my expectations!

Our second stay at ADU Piedmont side of Montclair was perfect. Our hosts went out of their way to welcome us, when we arrived from OAK in the latest Atmospheric River. We will stay with them next time.
