We drove up to the house at sunset. It was beyond gorgeous to look out over the fields behind the house and the river in front. The house itself was amazing inside and out, the pictures do not do it justice! If you want a calm vacation, where you really barely even see cars and very few other people, this is the place! The beds were super comfy and it really felt like home there. While it was an hour away from the closest beach, there was plenty for us to do! Debbie provides kayaks and bikes and cable tv and board games, and was around to be exceedingly helpful! She was super communicative from even before our stay. We spent our first day at the beach in Nags Head, then drove out to Engelhard to spend the evening and the rest of the weekend. The house had a very useful kitchen, and Debbie was super responsive about what was there while we were buying groceries in Nags Head (which I highly recommend doing and am glad we did, there is a small grocery store in Engelhard, but I have food allergies and it would have been difficult for me to find food I could eat there). On Saturday, we took a leisurely morning and then Debbie drove the kayaks down to the sound for us so we could picnic and spend the afternoon fishing and kayaking! We didn't catch anything, but it was still a great afternoon. For dinner, we went to the local restaurant Martelles, which had excellent prices and even better food. We rode bikes after dinner into another gorgeous sunset on the calm, country road that goes in front of the house. On Sunday, we packed up and headed back to Nags Head for the day before heading home. We absolutely loved Hyde and Sleep and would love to come back soon!
