Where do I start to respond to these allegations of spying and listening in on our guests? First of all it is against the law to have surveillance cameras inside if you rent your home. Second they are video only! Place strategically so we can monitor who and when our guests arrive and leave. VRBO suggest all their host to setup surveillance OUTSIDE for the guests safety and to protect our property. Here are a few reasons why... anyone can claim they slip and fall on ice and sue the homeowner. At least we have proof if it does happen. Guests book with 4 people in their party but 10 people show up (this has happened to us). On plenty of occasions we have called out guests for breaking our house rules. Like shooting fireworks, making out of control fires, stealing our belongings from the garage, having extra guests stay over, tearing up the lawn with ATV's and a lot more. So put yourself in our shoes... we offer our beautiful CLEAN home in the woods with wild animals and SPIDERS everywhere. Our personal belongings exposed to total strangers. The thought of anything happening to our guests or home would devastate us. The only sense of security or piece of mind is knowing we have camera's outside the house. God knows what goes on inside but we can only speculate by the condition some of our past guests have left the house in. What would you do as a host to protect yourself and your guests? We believe in full disclosure and most of the time guests don't read our profile from start to finish. The basement is listing as off limits and you had no reason to go down. Like I said everyone breaks the rules. If a door is locked that means it is off limits and our profile says 3 bedrooms not 4. Which you had full access to. Hidden in our profile we do mention cameras around the house. We've since updated our profile and made it clearer about the cameras. FYI a lot of our guests find comfort knowing the cameras are there for their own safety. We would not welcome you back to stay at our home and if you book a stay from a rental site make sure you ask about surveillance cameras. They are everywhere. Unfortunately this was a very disgruntled and problematic guest. Yes the WIFI thermostat was off when they arrived. That was an oversight on our part. As soon as Ida brought it to our attention we remotely turned it on and she had full access to the settings and we explained how to use it. We have never been called paternalistic or controlling. Like any other host we set our rules for the safety of our guests and to make sure our home is respected and not abused. We ask all our guest to read our rules, amenities and use of lake procedure. If something is not clear just ask. Ida did not communicate well. We do not falsify anything, what you read and see from the photos is what you get. There is no dock at the lake (plenty of beach for activities like fishing), we have 2 beautiful and comfortable Adirondack chairs on the front porch (as seen in the photos), plenty of heavy comforters stored in the many closets throughout the house. Ida did arrive in 75 degree weather, we hadn't switched the fall comforters to the winter ones before she arrived. All these lies and false accusations by Ida are just meant to hurt us. We reached out to Ida and kindly asked her to remove her review. She did not. She was the one who "nickeled and dimed" us. They were a party of 8 and we gave them a discounted rate. A word of caution to any host that Ida reaches out to in the future... watch out for this one. For any potential guest who read Ida's review please read all the previous reviews we have. We don't disappoint... we aim to please.
