Reviewing our stay is complicated.
When we arrived at the property after thirteen hours on the road, we were more than ready to rest our heads. I followed the check in instructions to the letter: âPlease text me at this number and I will give you the check in code.â My texts went unanswered. I reached out to VRBO and was told the same thing. By now, weâd been in our cars for twenty minutes, needing to use the bathroom and growing increasingly anxious about our lodging for the night. Finally VRBO gave me a backup telephone number which I called and received the code.
As we settled in, we found that there were only beds enough for five. We are a six-person family and so my youngest had to sleep on the uncomfortable living room sofa.
The overall vibe of the place was very homey and relaxed, in spite of the fact that the wall hangings look like they came from a Red Roof Inn fire sale. There is a huge backyard and screened in porchâboth very nice.
We were there for a wedding and wound up entertaining twenty-four people the evening before we left. The house easily accommodated that many guests and the shelves have a bunch of board games, too.
We cooked for everyone. The kitchen is nice, but itâs not very well stocked with toolsâthere were too many of some items, none of others. There were also some used coffee suppliesâartificial sweeteners and old coffee.
Similarly, the bathrooms are nice enough, but they were oddly stocked with half used shampoo and body wash bottles that looked like left overs from previous guests. Very strange. They could have been cleanerâthere was garbage on the floor of the master bathroom.
It would be good if the owner would provide more garbage bags, towels, and power strips. Itâs an older house and the rooms have very few outlets.
All that said, we would go back if we ever needed to be in Sanford again. The fact is, the home was comfortable and accommodated many people visiting at one time. Had it not been for the few hiccups, Iâd have given it five stars.
