Peaceful stay

This is a beautiful location and a "cottage" filled with everything you need surrounded by calm beauty. Despite a storm keeping us in one day, everything we wanted to do was within reach and we truly enjoyed the beauty and awe of the region. Hosts suggested grocery shopping in a larger centre before we arrived which we really appreciated. Kayaking in the calm harbour in front of the cottage was fun and easy. Thanks for a fabulous visit.

The best staycation cottage in Cabot Trail, cape Breton Island, NS

We had the great time staying on the cottage. It's clean, very private, though Keith & Lauren, the cottage owner are just a few meters away from where we stayed but they'd provided us the privacy. The cottage is equipped with all the necessary things we needed and more. It has the best view of the ocean cove, has panoramic view of sunrise. Very generous & kind host! Excellent Accommodation! The Best Part of our Trip!!

This is the perfect cottage experience for 4 people who like a combination of adventure and solitude. It is a very unique setting, overlooking the quiet harbour (no motor boats!!) which is sheltered by a gorgeous beach from the ocean. We used the kayaks and canoe to get to the beach. It was such a memorable experience. Keith and Lorraine are warm and approachable hosts who gave us lots of tips and welcomed us to their property wholeheartedly. There is lots of space to walk around on the grounds and we even got to see in "Sarah's House", an original family home on the northern tip of Cape Breton Island. It is a fully equipped cottage. We used the BBQ, laundry and the air conditioner while we were there. There was a big TV upstairs but we never used it because our weather was perfect and found no time for TV. Thank you so much Keith and Lorraine !!!

Kanadisches Paradies auf Cape Breton

Wir waren zu viert eine Woche im Ferienhaus von Loraine und Keith. Unsere Gastgeber waren super zuvorkommend und sehr nett! Man hatte das Gefühl, besonders willkommen zu sein! In einer Bucht mit kleinem Zufluss zum Meer liegt dieses liebevoll gestaltete Kleinod und bietet alles, was man sich vom einem Urlaub in Nova Scotia erhoffen kann: herrlicher Ausblick, Schwimmen im warmen Wasser, 4 Kajaks zur Verfügung, moskitofreier Sitzplatz am Wasser, die Sterne spiegeln sich im See, Milchstraße bestaunen am Lagerfeuer und natürlich die grandiose Landschaft von Cape Breton mit Wanderwegen in der Nähe! Das Haus ist mit allem ausgestattet, was man braucht. Jede Menge schöne Handtücher, Duschbad und Haarwäsche, Küchenutensilien und Kaffee, Tee, Gewürze etc. Das Wasser aus dem Hahn kann man trinken. Wir haben besonders die Klimaanlage und das Duschhäuschen draußen sowie den großen Gasgrill sehr geschätzt. Wer Meeresfrüchte mag, kommt hier voll auf seine Kosten! Ganz in der Nähe gibt es eine Austernbar am Campingplatz und in Chéticamp gibt es einen gut sortierten Seefood Store mit Restaurant! Vielen lieben Dank an Loraine und Keith für all das! A beautiful place for a great vacation

We had a gorgeous time. Keith and Lorraine are superb hosts. The place is fabulous, as the bay is relatively warm in comparison to the open sea and allows swimming. The appartment is very well maitained. Everything was neat and right where you would expect it. The hikes in the vicinity are beautiful.

Beautiful cottage in a beautiful area

The cottage was perfect, great care has been taken in providing everything you need for a long stay. Full kitchen, appliances, dishes. The bedding, decor, furniture is excellent quality. The land- no words can describe the area. Enjoy some hiking if the weather is great or sit in the cottage's beautiful sunroom and just gaze into the water. Just an amazing place in an amazing land.

Fabulous Stay

Property was even better than the pictures and description! Super clean, well decorated and lots of thoughtful items were made available throughout our stay. The location was perfect; half way between Cheticamp and Ingonish trails. Keith and Lorraine were friendly and there to greet us and provide helpful tips. Thank you to both for a trip to remember.

A perfect escape.

We have rented many cottages over the years and this is certainly one of the best. Beautifully located on the shores of tranquil South Harbour we spent our days hiking the coastline and returned each day to kayak around the islands in the bay. A perfect stay and we look forward to returning.

A Perfect Vacation Home

This is truly the best vacation property our family has ever rented. The home is immaculately clean and very well equipped. The location on the water is so peaceful and having access to kayaks and a canoe was an added bonus. It is in an ideal area of the Cabot Trail to have access to trails on both sides of the park. It is very close to the road leading up to Meat Cove which is well worth the visit. The owners made us feel very welcome. We are already looking forward to a future visit!

Amazing views, comfortable house, best owners

This review will be a little different as we weathered a hurricane in this cabin. Of course we did also all the normal vacation stuff- hiking Skyline Trail, driving around the beautiful Cabot Trail, venturing to the gorgeous Meat Cove. When the Hurricane came, Keith and Lorraine did everything to make us feel safe and welcomed. We could even leave our canoe in their garage and keep the car further up at their house to protect it from the storm. Many trees fell during that night, the house directly at the water rattled and shook but is sturdy as could be. Very well built, super clean and comfortable. Even when we lost power for 24 hours, we were warm thanks to the wood stove. We boiled water for coffee on it and toasted some bread. With all the scary wind, we made sure to still enjoy our vacation. Which was easy in this beautiful home. Keith and Lorraine are very special hosts, we enjoyed talking with them. Thank you for an unforgetable time!

The cottage itself really is beautiful, and bigger than it appears in the online pictures. The kitchen is fully equipped with anything you might possibly need, and Keith and Lorraine are friendly and helpful guests. The area is wonderful for hiking, swimming, and kayaking. We highly recommend Southrock Cottage!

Cabot trail vacation

Southrock cottage was everything I’d hoped for and more. Modern, clean and very well equipped. Private spot with a beautiful view. Perfect location for day trips around the Cabot Trail. Keith and Lorraine were the ultimate hosts.
