1 Bed in Penrith (oc-sz350)
Elegant, imposing and brimming with history, this beautiful apartment is based on the first floor of an 18th-century property that’s surrounded by over 5 acres of grounds. A short 0.5-mile walk will bring you to the centre of the village; a quintessential setting with a famous chocolate shop that offers handcrafted delights. For walkers, Orton Scar and the Howgills are an exciting prospect for an afternoon excursion, and it is easy to see why this beautiful landscape was so celebrated by renowned fell walker and author Alfred Wainwright. Further afield, the Settle to Carlisle Railway is a must-see, and you can hop on board to enjoy the views from Kirkby Stephen Station.
Cross the gardens and enter the main hall where stone mullioned windows, wooden panelling and rustic furniture set the scene and discover the shared drawing room with its ornate wooden ceiling and cosy seating. There is a shared pool table, a chess table and a baby grand piano for entertainment and there is a laundry room further along the corridor with a coin-operated washing machine and tumble dryer. Climb the staircase to the first floor to reach your front door, where you will find your private apartment with its high ceilings and traditional decor. The open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner is spacious and inviting whether you are settled on the window seat admiring the views or switching on the flame-effect fire to snuggle down on the sofa watching the Smart TV. Prepare meals in the kitchen using the excellent range of equipment including an electric oven, hob, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher. Dine in style at the long table in the large mullioned and lead-paned bay window overlooking the rear lawns and woodland. At bedtime, the bedroom has a delightful king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom with a shower over the spa bath and WC.
Back downstairs, the vast expanse of shared gardens and grounds stretch for over 5 acres with stunning vistas at every turn. Manicured lawns, mature trees and shrubbery surround the majestic property and there is a fountain and a fishpond too. This is a Red Squirrel area, and with patience you may see them scurrying around the grounds, especially early in the morning Woodland paths lead through a copse to a viewing point overlooking Orton Scar and the Howgills in the distance and there are trails leading into Orton Village. Parking for one car is available in a designated space close to the front door.
