Big Barn at Dairy Cottages
Set alongside the road in the charming hamlet of Wigbeth, this striking barn conversion was completed in 2018 and blends historic character with contemporary style. Ideally located near the Dorset–Hampshire border and just a short distance from Cranborne Chase, the property offers a wonderful base for exploring the surrounding countryside and nearby attractions. Big Barn welcomes up to 2 well-behaved dogs during your stay.
Entering the detached barn, originally built in 1680, you're welcomed into an impressive open-plan living space incorporating the kitchen, dining and lounge areas, all beneath a full-height vaulted ceiling. Bi-fold doors to the rear allow natural light to flood in, while a standout circular wood burner creates a warm and inviting focal point. The lounge area is perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring, with comfortable seating and an internet only TV for evenings in. The stylish kitchen is exceptionally well equipped with a double electric oven and induction hob, American-style fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, fresh coffee bean machine and washer/dryer. There is also a separate WC on the ground floor.
Also on the ground floor are two beautifully presented bedrooms: a double bedroom with en-suite shower and WC, and a king-size bedroom featuring a shower set neatly into the corner of the room, along with a separate WC. A spiral staircase from the kitchen leads to the first floor, where you'll find a stunning king-size bedroom with vaulted ceiling, views over the living area and an en-suite shower and WC. A second staircase rises from the lounge to a mezzanine snug overlooking the living space, complete with a Juliet balcony and comfortable sofa — an ideal reading or relaxation spot. Leading on from here is a super-king-size zip-and-link bedroom (which can be made up as a twin on request), also featuring a Juliet balcony and en-suite shower and WC.
Outside, there is a fully enclosed garden with a patio area and an excellent outdoor kitchen, including gas-powered plancha grills, a sink and generous worktop space. Garden furniture and artificial lawn complete the space, making it ideal for al fresco dining and socialising. Guests also have access to a shared enclosed paddock, perfect for picnics or dog walking.
Nearby scenic walking and cycling routes lead through the surrounding countryside, offering breathtaking views across this picturesque area. Nearby attractions include Wimborne Minster, Badbury Rings, Moors Valley Country Park and the New Forest National Park. For shopping and dining, the market towns of Wimborne and Ringwood are well worth a visit, while the beautiful sandy beaches of Bournemouth and Poole can be reached easily by car.
Off road parking is available for up to 3 vehicles. Should you require another space, please let us know.
