Region: From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britainâs best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Town: Anstruther is the principal village on Fifeâs East Neuk Coast and was formerly two distinct burghs, Anstruther West and East. The two parts of the village are divided by the Dreel Burn. Anstruther was originally founded as a fishing village and played a major role in the Scottish herring industry. The history is well documented in the Scottish Fisheries Museum sitting alongside the attractive and busy harbour. Now popular with tourists, Anstruther offers many cafes, bars, galleries and restaurants including the award-winning Anstruther Fish Bar, and tourists sit around the harbour enjoying their traditional fish and chips. The harbour is now home to the many pleasure craft offering trips along the coast or to the Isle of May in the Firth of Forth to view the puffin and seal colonies. Across the Forth is Edinburgh and this is easily accessed by car or public transport for an exciting day out. Another popular attraction is the Secret Bunker, a former Cold War nuclear bunker now open to the public. With beautiful coastal walks, the proximity of many golf courses, including St Andrews, Anstruther has so much to offer the visitor.
