Stroll along the River Swale to the evocative ruins of Easby Abbey (4 miles), followed by a delicious slice of Yorkshire parkin and a hot cup of tea at a cosy local cafe. Barnard Castle and the Bowes Museum (10 miles), Reeth (14 miles), Northallerton and Harrogate are all within easy striking distance.
