GENERAL INFORMATION
"Casa Mina" is a cozy and bright apartment located in the charming town of Menaggio, precisely in Loveno, which is a hamlet of Menaggio. It’s a historic building, actually it’s the oldest of Loveno. It used to be a convent in the 15th century; it was owned by “Zaninus de Voltis”, ancestor of the scientist Alessandro Volta from Como, inventor of the battery.
It is spread over two floors: on the ground floor, there is a living area with a traditional exposed-beam ceiling, a spacious seating area that can be converted into an additional double bed, an open-plan kitchen fully equipped to prepare delicious meals, and a guest bathroom with a toilet and sink. From the window, you can enjoy a stunning view of the lake and the garden, which, however, can not be used by guests as it is private property, but there’s a big stone terrace in front of the house which can be used as it’s part of the property, only the lawn part can not be used.
Upstairs, you’ll find a double bedroom with a ceiling fan and a full bathroom with a shower.

SURROUNDINGS
Menaggio is a charming town located on the picturesque shores of Lake Como. One of Menaggio’s highlights is its stunning lakeside promenade, which offers breathtaking views. Take a leisurely stroll along the promenade and soak in the lake’s tranquility.
Outdoor enthusiasts will find Menaggio to be a little paradise. The surrounding area offers a variety of activities, from hiking and mountain biking in the nearby hills, to water sports such as sailing, kayaking, and paddleboarding on the lake. Nature lovers will also appreciate the many hiking trails that lead to spectacular viewpoints, providing a chance to fully enjoy the natural beauty of Lake Como.
Menaggio is also a great base for exploring other towns and villages around the lake. Ferries conveniently depart to Bellagio, Varenna, and Tremezzo, each with its own charm and attractions.
GETTING AROUND
For convenience, we recommend that guests arrive by car.
In Menaggio, you’ll also find the ferry dock, from which local ferries depart for Como, Bellagio, Varenna, and other lake towns. Please note that during high season, there may be long queues at the ticket office. Tickets can also be purchased online through the Navigazione Laghi website. There is also a car ferry.
From Como San Giovanni station, there are regular trains to Milan Central and Switzerland (Lugano, Bellinzona, Locarno). From Como Nord Lago, you can reach Milan Cadorna via direct train. The nearest airports are Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, and Orio Al Serio in Bergamo. A private shuttle service to and from the airport can be arranged for an additional fee.
For any transport-related questions, feel free to contact us — we’ll be happy to help and ensure you reach your preferred destination!
TIPS
We recommend dedicating a full day to exploring the charming towns around the lake. Como is the main city, but the small towns are true gems with beautiful lakeside villas.
To move around and walk along Lake Como, especially in the smaller towns, comfortable shoes are a must.
There are many public fountains with drinking water in the area, and the water is safe to drink unless otherwise indicated. Tap water is also potable. Bring your reusable water bottle!
If you're looking for a relatively easy hike in the area and still want mountain views, the Greenway del Lago di Como is a gentle trail that connects several lakeside villages from Colonno to Griante, with minimal elevation. A bus can take you to the starting point in Colonno.
Look for traditional restaurants to taste local specialties, especially dishes featuring Lake Como fish.
In Italy, many shops (especially small ones) and services close during midday hours, so plan your shopping accordingly.
Lake Como is one of the deepest lakes in Europe and the deepest in Italy. Swimming and diving are prohibited in many areas and can be dangerous. However, for those who wish to take a dip, there are some options. Menaggio has a beach (lido), and visitors also enjoy going to Nesso, where adventurous swimmers can jump into the lake from the old Roman bridge near the waterfall.
The Bellagio Lido and the pebbled beach in San Giovanni await those who want to travel and explore the beautiful town of Bellagio, located in the center of the lake’s two branches.
Lake Como lies in a mountainous region. While the surrounding Pre-Alps may not seem very high, the climate is still influenced by the nearby mountains, and temperatures can change quickly. Be especially cautious about weather conditions when hiking and bring warm, waterproof clothing!
