Keys were provided late at check-in and the host did not respond. We wondered if we had been scammed. Earlier on arrival day, the host wrote: "they are doing works at the reception but workers have been informed to keep space clear for residents." This vastly understated the scale of the work. Construction supplies and smells made the hallway to the unit unpleasant, and unsafe for our elderly traveler. The building is covered in scaffolding, blocking our view and compromising privacy. At the host's request we left windows unlocked for "exterior work". Windows were opened from the outside, scraped and painted, left open with strong paint fumes and old paint chips and dust inside falling on our belongings, the floor, and into running fans. Given the age of the building, that could have been lead paint.We paid more for AC and arrived during a historic heatwave. The apartment has 2 improperly-installed portable AC units and a portable evaporative cooler which does not work well. Host acknowledged that AC was ineffective as installed and only offered to deliver ice for the evaporative cooler.The building is not safe for rental. We should have known of construction well before the morning of check-in. The host did nothing to get the advertised AC working. The host did not respond to our complaints. Lastly, it is not like the listing photos, but cluttered, with dirty patio and showers. It smells moldy and damp from the extensive construction taking place.
