Alkioni - Drei Schlafzimmer Villa, Schläft 6
A wonderfully positioned, homely villa with plunge pool Jacuzzi and garden gate access to the irresistible waters of the Ionian Sea.
Sitting in an enviably private location on the little promontory of Mongonissi in the south of Paxos, Alkioni possesses a striking set of greatly sought-after attributes: not only does it have a little pool and direct sea access, but it's also within easy walking distance of a pair of tavernas and Paxos' only sandy beach. What more could you desire for a summer holiday to remember?
Inside: accommodation at Alkioni is spread over a main house and a garden room. The former has a simple layout all on one floor. At the centre is an open-plan living area and a well-equipped modern kitchen, complete with breakfast bar-cum-island. Comfy sofas are strategically placed to take in the sea views via a wide sliding glass door, while lofty beamed ceilings, white, grey and creamy stone walls and a variety of windows create an airy, luminous atmosphere.
Flanking this space on either side are two good-sized bedrooms, a double and a twin-double, each with its own en-suite shower room and access via sliding glass doors to the main sea-view terrace. A guest WC off the kitchen area completes the accommodation in the main house.
The garden room is reached via 11 steps that lead down from the main house. Accessed independently from its very own sea-view terrace, it is home to a spacious double bedroom with en-suite shower room.
Outside: the main focus point for al fresco activities is the large shady sea-view terrace outside the main house. Accessed from the living area and the two bedrooms, this super space is furnished for lounging and dining, and it is here that you will take most of your meals. Superb sea views fan out in front of you, and you might like to gaze at them from the adjacent plunge pool Jacuzzi, a winning addition to the outdoor areas.
The garden room, meanwhile, has its own covered terrace, part of which is given over to a table tennis area. A path leads from here down through the gardens to the rocky seafront, where, via a ladder, you may lower yourself into the translucent waters of the Ionian Sea.
Due to the nature of the property including terraces low walls and several drops around the grounds, children must be supervised at all times.
The sea access in front of this property is via rocks and so may not be possible to use if the sea is rough.
As this villa is located on an island, we recommend extra caution when booking your flights to avoid problems or delays with ferries and hydrofoils. It may be advisable to arrive a day earlier and depart a day later. Please contact us for any information or advice.
Alkioni sits in a privileged private position on the eastern side of the Mongonissi peninsula in the south of Paxos. At the bottom of the garden one may access the sea directly, while a short stroll will take you to Paxos' only sandy beach, popular with families thanks to the many facilities, including a lido, watersports and a couple of tavernas. A 15-minute drive north will take you up to Gaios Town, with its gentle buzz, its seafront tavernas and cafés and its shops boat hire opportunities. Gaios is the port of entry and departure, and also has frequent boat services to Corfu and Paxos' tiny sister island, Antipaxos. The picturesque little ports of Lakka and Laggos in the northern part of the island are also worth a visit either by car or by boat.
Paxos (measuring around 13km from north to south) is situated 15km south of Corfu and about 20km off the Greek mainland. It boasts some of the most stunning beaches anywhere in the Mediterranean and, as it's only accessible by ferry, has managed to remain relatively unspoilt by mass tourism.
The western seaboard of Paxos is dramatic, with cliffs, sea caves and stretches of rugged, rocky coastline, while the east coast is home to gentle sandy beaches and views of the Greek mainland. The hinterland is carpeted with olive groves, which produce some truly excellent oil.
A holiday on Paxos is all about relaxing and taking it easy, all the more so if you book one of our villas on the island.
