A Home Made for Unwinding
Designed to feel both welcoming and quietly special, Oystercatcher is a home where light, sea and sky take centre stage. Its reverse-living layout means the main living space is upstairs, giving you stunning views throughout the day. Morning light pours in through the large windows, and in the evening the sun sets over the water, casting warm colours across the wooden floors.
The open-plan living area has a laid-back coastal feel, with large comfy sofas, a rustic oak dining table, and a wood-burning stove set into a stone hearth. A pool table adds a bit of fun for quiet nights in, and sliding doors lead onto a balcony that runs the full width of the house — a lovely spot for a morning coffee or evening drink as the light changes over the sea.
Just off the main space, there’s a separate snug with a large Smart TV, Sky, Netflix, surround sound, and yet another beautiful view.
The Kitchen
Bright and well equipped, the kitchen is a joy to spend time in. It includes an induction hob, oven, microwave, slow cooker, bean-to-cup coffee machine, dishwasher and all the utensils you might need. The sociable layout makes it easy to cook while chatting or sharing a drink around the island. It’s especially lovely in the early morning or golden hour, with the light streaming in over the water.
The Bedrooms
All four bedrooms are located downstairs and have been designed to offer a calm and restful atmosphere.
The main bedroom features a super king-size bed, an en-suite with both bath and shower, and French doors opening onto a small balcony with sea views. The second bedroom also has a super king-size bed and its own en-suite shower room. The remaining two bedrooms both have king-size beds, one of which also enjoys a sea view. These two rooms share a separate family shower room.
There is also a laundry room with a washing machine, tumble dryer and butler sink — handy for longer stays or beach-heavy days.
Outdoor Living
The outdoor areas at Oystercatcher have been carefully designed to suit every moment of the day.
At the front, a sun-trap terrace with glass balustrade is the perfect spot for morning coffee or evening drinks, with uninterrupted views of the sea. At the back, a private courtyard offers an outdoor shower, table tennis and a basketball hoop — ideal for a bit of fun after the beach.
One of the most special features is the raised upper terrace, accessed via a bridge from the main living space. Sheltered and private, it’s set up for both sunny lunches and cosy evenings, with built-in seating around a firepit and a large rustic dining table. Stay out late under the stars with a blanket and a drink, and enjoy the stillness of this peaceful coastal spot.
Hot Tub Hire
If you’d like to enjoy a hot tub during your stay, this can be arranged at an additional cost. Hire charges are quoted separately and are payable directly. Please enquire at the time of booking so we can confirm availability.
Location
Oystercatcher is located at the top of Polkirt Hill, overlooking the picture-perfect fishing village of Mevagissey. From here, you can walk down to the harbour, browse local shops and galleries, enjoy a pint in a waterside pub, or set off along the South West Coast Path in either direction.
A short walk will take you to Portmellon Cove — ideal for a paddle or a drink at the Rising Sun Inn. You’re also within easy reach of some of Cornwall’s best-known attractions, including The Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project and the historic harbour at Charlestown.
If you’re visiting in late June, Mevagissey Feast Week is a highlight of the village calendar, with music, food and traditional events bringing the streets to life.
Getting Here
Mevagissey is easy to reach by car, train or plane. If you’re driving, the house is around 20 minutes from St Austell, with parking for up to three cars directly outside. The local roads are narrow and can be steep in places, so we recommend taking it slowly when you first arrive.
The nearest train station is St Austell, which has direct links from London Paddington, Exeter and other major stations. From there, it's around 15 to 20 minutes by taxi. Newquay Airport is around 40 minutes away by car and offers regular flights from London, Manchester and other UK cities.
Booking and Payment
Full payment is taken at the time of booking to confirm your reservation. All payments are handled securely, and you’ll receive an email confirmation once your booking is complete.
If you need to cancel, 70% of the total amount will be refunded if the cancellation is made at least 60 days before your arrival date. Unfortunately, cancellations made within 60 days are non-refundable.
A welcome pack will be accessible to you after booking confirmation with full contact details, local tips and everything you need for a smooth stay. Emergency contact numbers will also be available in the house.
This is our home, and we respectfully ask that you treat it with care. While a standard cleaning fee is included, any additional cleaning required beyond this will be an additional charge.
