10 Cairnbaan Cottages is a charming cottage packed full of character, sitting just metres from the peaceful Crinan Canal. It is the ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy a slightly slower pace for a while!
The cottage features a cosy living room with wood burning stove, and a reading nook in the corner. The kitchen is well equipped, with a hob, oven/grill, microwave and Smeg fridge/freezer. There is a separate dining room, ideal for family meals (or for a big Christmas dinner if you're staying at that time of year!).
The main bedroom is a spacious double; whilst the second bedroom features two sets of bunk beds which have been locally hand crafted from the most beautiful natural wood. The bunks are slightly narrower than regular singles.
The large bathroom has been beautifully modernised, and features a bath with shower over it.
Downstairs, the views look out to the leafy surroundings, whilst the master bedroom upstairs enjoys views of the canal.
The enclosed south-facing back garden enjoys the sun for most of the day - there is also another enclosed garden area complete with a trampoline behind the parking spaces, as well as a shared green behind the row of cottages which is perfect for ball games.
Polly's Coffee Stop is well worth the 10 minute walk up the canal - normally situated at Lock 10, she serves brilliant cakes/coffee as well as various breakfast/lunch items (soup, tarts, etc).
We are just under 7 miles from Kilmartin. An area steeped in history, Kilmartin Glen is 'considered to have one of the most important concentrations of Neolithic and Bronze Age remains in Scotland' (VisitScotland, 2024). There are over 350 ancient (150 of those prehistoric) monuments within 6 miles of the village, which include standing stones, cup & ring marked/carved rocks, forts, castles, cairns and stone circles. The Kilmartin Museum is a must-see, and the attached Glen Bistro makes it an ideal day trip.

The track from the cottage takes you back out onto the banks of the Crinan Canal, offering endless opportunities for long walks and to enjoy the scenery. If you look carefully you might spot the swans with their cygnets (usually May/June), or even the resident kingfishers!

The cottage is full of character, and the perfect place for couples or young families to escape for a few days. Enjoying a slower place, it is designed for relaxing - with the wood burner for cosy nights in. It is centrally placed within Argyll - so there is plenty to see and do within a short distance, if you're looking for a slightly more adventurous holiday!
