Idyllic seaside retreat. Stunning sea views in nature reserve.
Waking up to the sounds and smell of the sea, and the gentle light of morning filtering through the bedroom windows with amazing sea views. At Seafarers, one of the new houses at Fort Victoria on the Isle of Wight’s tranquil west coast, every day begins with a spectacular vista, and a sense of tranquility and calm.
This beautifully designed three-storey home is the perfect retreat for families or friends looking to unwind by the sea. Comfortably sleeping six adults and two children (in a cozy bunk room), it offers generous living spaces, sea views from the two main double bedrooms, the living room and the balcony, and thoughtful touches that make your stay feel really special.
The large master bedroom on the ground floor is the quintessence of quiet luxury, featuring a king-size bed with pocket-sprung mattress, large bay window, and French doors that open directly onto a grassy lawn facing the sea. Step outside with your morning coffee and feel the salty breeze before all but the sailors and seagulls are fast asleep. The en-suite bathroom is designed with a nod to the island's fossil and geological heritage - spacious, with a walk-in shower (both overhead and handle shower heads) and sink/wc cabinets. Also on the ground floor, a twin bedroom with full-size single beds is ideal for adults or older children, with a funky 1970s shower room next door.
Upstairs, the heart of the home is a bright, open-plan space that invites and encourages time spent together. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need for family meals, from an induction hob and electric oven to a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, coffee machine and microwave. There’s a breakfast bar for casual munching, and a serving hatch to the dining space, where a unique table embedded with an Ordnance Survey map of the island becomes the centrepiece for dinner conversations and holiday planning.
The living area is cosy and stylish, with designer leather sofas and a reclining chair (for the ultimate 'flop out' sea-gazing experience), and doors that lead out to the first-floor balcony—the perfect place for a glass of wine as the sun sets over the Solent. With its sweeping 180° coastal views, the balcony will likely became your favourite spot in the house, especially in the early evening.
On the top floor, the second king-size bedroom offers more sea views through its Velux windows and includes another en-suite bathroom with a bath/shower combo and a design inspired by the beach features out front. Just off this bedroom is a small bunk room that children will absolutely loved—it will feel like their own secret woodland-themed hideaway. It’s ideal for two younger kids under 5 feet tall (taller children won't be able to fit in the beds), and has hanging space for the second bedroom, and a Velux window for stargazing.
Outside, the house continues to impress. The rear garden has a large circular table with wraparound bench seating—great for al fresco meals at any time of day or parlour games like 'ibble-dibble' (strongly encourage you to look it up and play). There’s also secure bike storage and a clothesline for drying beach towels after a day exploring the island. Tucked away in a quiet corner of the garden, a summerhouse serves as a peaceful home-working office for those who need to check in while away (warmer months only, as it’s unheated).
With off-road parking right outside and a location that puts coastal walks, beaches, and Yarmouth all within easy reach, Seafarers is everything you’d want in a seaside escape—comfortable, beautifully located, and just the right mix of practical and indulgent. It invites you to slow down, breathe in the sea air, and make the most of the magic and adventure right on the doorstep.

Über den Gastgeber
Zu Gast bei Mark Smith

I divide my time between Marlow, where I work as a gardener and rewilding specialist, and the Isle of Wight. I'm also an artist by training, as you'll no doubt notice as soon as you enter the house 😂. I love all things about the natural world, from which I take a lot of inspiration and solace. And I love sharing this very unique and idyllic part of the island with guests.
Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft
I've been holidaying in this little corner of the Isle of Wight with my brother Mark since I was a child, staying in our grandfather's little green wooden hut on top of the cliffs at Colwell Bay, in a little community of old railway carriages and painted wooden shacks. The hut has long since gone, but Mark and I keep coming back here with our own children, who themselves have fallen for the magic and adventure of this area.
Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig
Mark and I try to make our shared holiday home a place with personality; a place that reflects the natural environment and the things that we really love about the immediate vicinity. So as well as being a haven from the stresses and pressures of the modern world, we also like to make it a place full of interesting things and discovery. We've also designed it to be a place where people - families and friends - come together, away from their screens.
