The region, which inspired some of Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s poetry, is a truly romantic area to visit, whether you’re wandering past the region’s characteristic chalk streams or visiting Somersby Grange, the stunning manor house next to Tennyson’s birthplace. The area’s natural features make it the perfect spot for an outdoorsy, active holiday, and there are plenty of pretty historic towns to stop in for a pub lunch or tea and cake. Louth’s red-brick centre is at the heart of a town that offers fantastic food and weekly markets, while Alford lies nearer the sea, and features the historic Alford Manor House. Horncastle boasts ancient Roman walls and the stunning thirteenth-century St Mary’s Church, but Market Rasen is a great stop if you’re hiking through the region, and Hemswell features one of the largest antiques centres in Europe.
