Stichwort: Birder Paradies, Hütten in den Wäldern von Ramsey Canyon. Hummingbird Kabine mit zwei Schlafzimmern und zwei Bädern (Miete ein Schlafzimmer oder zwei)!
We had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful cozy, quiet cabin nestled amongst the forest of Ramsey Canyon. It is a wonderful place nicley decorated with all the amenities one would need or want and the comforts of home. It even includes WIFI and cable television as well as nice barbecue area. It has an abundance of wild animals and birds for the true nature lovers or birders. We were made to feel very comfortable by the owners who demonstrated great hospitality and made sure we had everything we needed. The Ramsey canyon 'Preserves are just a short walk up the road and the Folklore just before that. Thank you and we will definitely refer others to enjoy the experience as well.
This review deals with the Hummingbird Cabin, one of two available at the site. To begin, let me say the location of this cabin is wonderful. It’s a short walk to the Ramsay Canyon Preserve and its beautiful/difficult Hamburg trail hike to the overview; the deer and turkeys visiting each day and the proximity to Brown’s Canyon, Sierra Vista, Coronado Monument, Carr Canyon, Miller Canyon, etc. And yes, I realize it’s a cabin but there are some problems with the facilities that a renter should know about.
Kitchen has 2 sources of water, both potable but one of which has a strong sulphur smell. The other makes a continuous trickling sound as it begins the filtering process after you use it. If you cook every night, as we did, be aware that there’s a good chance the smoke alarm will go off, so be sure to turn on the vent. The dish washer is hit or miss. It, like the refrigerator is old and quite loud. Bring a sharp knife for cutting anything other than cheese. The toaster is well past its prime and will not go all the way down, meaning you have to reverse the bread when you think you’re half way through the cycle. The microwave is weak, so add about 30% to the time you think you need. The kitchen table has four wooden chairs, one of which has a cushion. The pots and pans are well worn and thin, although there is a cast iron frying pan. There are plenty of glasses but with the exception of one, they’re all 12-16 oz., and there are also some plastic champagne glasses. The coffee maker uses basket filters. One dish towel is provided, but if you request another, you will get it.
There is nowhere to put your clothes in either bedroom – some hooks on the wall would be a good idea, as there’s really no room for a dresser. The bed off the kitchen has been used a lot on the left side (nearest to the bathroom), so if you want a good sleep, claim the side away from the bathroom.
The bathrooms are smallish - what we expected, and the shower is small with 2 sliding doors at right angles so you have to stick your hand in between the closed doors while waiting for the hot water, then turn it off before entering and restarting the water, otherwise you’ll be spraying your bathroom floor. You have to move the rug to close the bathroom door and the towels are rough and semi-absorbent.
Bring a flashlight so you can see the path from the parking area to the cabin door in the dark. The outside light is inadequate.
We spent two nights in the Cowboy Cabin. The cabin was clean and comfortable, very cozy. It had all of the kitchen and bath furnishings we needed. After three nights of camping, it was fantastic to just bake a frozen pizza! I really appreciated that the porch had plenty of hummingbird feeders and looked out onto woodland. Lots of other birds stopped by. It felt very secluded, and was very quiet. The Hummingbird Cabin is a nice distance away and there are plenty of trees so you can barely even see it. Always deer and turkeys in the yard, and peacocks calling.
We pushed the twin beds together to make a king. It was very comfortable. It was unexpectedly nice to be in bed and still watch the TV that's in the "living room" (sleeping area and living room/dining room are all one large room). There's lots of seating, inside and out.
Harry and Judy were out of town, so we worked with their son Randy, who was super nice and very helpful. The cabins are in Ramsey Canyon, so it's a great base camp for visiting other birding hot spots in the area. We visited Carr, Ash, and Miller Canyons all with very little travel time between them and our home away from home. Not far from the San Pedro House, either.
One thing to note is that people with mobility issues should realize there are several steps in the bathroom area. You have to use them to reach the toilet and shower. Also to enter the cabin by the porch. Not a negative, just something to be aware of.
Anyway, a great stay and I already want to come back again!
Such a gorgeous place at the Cowboy Cabin. It was clean, gorgeous and relaxing. The wildlife was exceptional and the birds were incredible. I loved the wild Peacocks and wonderful Hummingbirds. What a treat. I want to thank you so much for an enjoyable stay. I will be back!
Had an exceptionally nice stay. It snowed while we were up there got about 4" of snow overnight. My son absolutely loved it. Bot of the cabins are very well maintained and well-kept and very comfortable. This was by far better than any B&B or any resort. The owners Harry & Judy are very welcoming and friendly and do anything and everything in their power to make your stay the best ever. They are very happy and joyful. The deer, turkey and peacocks come within feet of you. There is so much to do and see. The creek was flowing and was very relaxing to sit by. The whole atmosphere and cabins were just wonderful and comfortable and relaxing. I would definitely recommend the Ramsey Canyon Cabins to anyone who is visiting Sierra Vista. My family and I will definitely be back in the very near future.
