The Ruffed Grouse Lodge cabin itself is beautiful and immaculately clean. We had no problems communicating with the owners. They were wonderful. The lake and surrounding area is lovely and serene. We saw so many deer on our walks. What wasn't expected was that the "Lodge" is part of a small resort type of situation consisting of the owner's property, the Ruffed Grouse lodge, and two smaller cabins. The boat house, fire pit, and beach are situated at one end of the property and are all communal during your stay. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it isn't promoted as such in the property description. We were bummed about how far away the firepit was from the Lodge property we were staying in. We had our 3 year old with us and he went to bed at 7pm. We were hoping for late night bonfires but our baby monitor didn't reach to the firepit and we couldn't see the lodge from that area so we didn't feel comfortable leaving him. We booked thinking we were staying in a cabin with close private access to a fire pit and beach. We just had to adjust our expectations a bit. We also ran into a small issue with the basement being damp and a bit musty due to the summer humidity/rain. The owners were quickly able to set up humidifiers in the room, but it took a couple days to dry out. We had to share rooms upstairs for a few days which wasn't ideal. We still had a lovely stay and took advantage of as many amenities as we could.
