Host & Stay | Stone Row
Summary:
Stone Row Cottage is a Grade II listed home in the quiet village of Skinningrove on the North Yorkshire coast. Sleeping up to four guests, it’s been thoughtfully decorated to offer plenty of space and comfort for a self-catering stay by the sea. Just a few minutes’ stroll from Cattersty Sands - a beautiful, dog-friendly beach - the cottage is perfectly placed for exploring the North Yorkshire coast and moors. Stone Row is dog-friendly, with no restrictions on where your companions can go.
The Space:
Stone Row has been decorated with comfort in mind. Inside, you’ll find two cosy living rooms, giving you plenty of space to relax. The first, just off the hallway, has a sofa, two armchairs, and soft neutral tones that make it an easy place to unwind. You’ll also find a big beanbag for your dog companions and blankets provided for the furniture if you’d like them to curl up on the sofa. Artwork and ornaments add character to the room and reflect Skinningrove’s history. Whether you’re watching TV (with Freesat and Netflix provided) or simply enjoying a quiet evening, it’s a space that feels homely and welcoming.
Across the hallway, the second living room doubles as a dining room, making it a versatile space for meals and downtime. There’s a dining table for family meals or board games, and a comfy sofa for reading or relaxing. The games cupboard is well stocked with options for both children and adults, and you’ll also find a varied selection of books to enjoy during your stay. If you start a novel and don’t get to finish it, you’re welcome to take it home with you. A basket of blankets is on hand too, perfect for getting extra snug.
The kitchen has a modern shaker style with navy cabinets and light coloured worktops, making it a bright space to cook. It’s fully equipped with everything you’ll need for a self-catering stay, from everyday essentials to the little extras that make things easier. You’ll also find a welcome supply of tea, coffee and sugar to get you started, along with condiments such as salt, pepper and cooking oil, plus washing up liquid, hand soap, a tea towel and a washing up sponge - so you can settle straight in without worrying about the small things. There’s also a good selection of crockery and glassware for your meals and drinks.
On the ground floor there’s a separate shower room with a walk-in shower, WC and wash basin. Having an extra bathroom downstairs is a real bonus, especially for families or after a day at the beach.
Guests often tell us they have a really good night’s sleep at Stone Row Cottage. Both bedrooms are extra spacious and relaxing, with a total of eight pillows provided (two of which are extra supportive).
Set up with a super king-size bed for a really comfortable night’s sleep, this room can also be split into two full-sized singles upon request before your stay - ideal for families or friends travelling together. The room includes a chest of drawers, an armchair, and a hanging rail for your clothes, plus a full-length mirror, bedside tables and lamps, as well as USB sockets for charging. Bedding is provided along with four pillows. You’ll also find a blanket for your dog companions, and an extra blanket for guests is stored in the chest of drawers if needed.
The second bedroom has a comfortable king-size bed with bedding and four pillows. There is a dressing table with a large mirror and chair, a hair dryer, bedside tables and lamps with dimmer switches. A travel cot with mattress and sheet is also stored in this room and can be set up before your stay upon request. Just like the first bedroom, you’ll also find a chest of drawers, a hanging rail, a blanket for your dog companions, and an extra blanket for guests if needed.
The bathroom at Stone Row is larger than average and designed as a relaxing space to unwind. As well as a WC and wash basin, it features a deep roll-top bath with a handheld shower - perfect for a long soak after a day at the beach or walking the Cleveland Way. Dark blue panelling contrasts with fresh white walls and silver fittings, giving the room a classic yet calming and luxurious feel. We provide a bath towel and hand towel for each guest, as well as a bath mat.
Outside, Stone Row has a pretty, private courtyard with high walls and a lockable gate, ideal for keeping bikes out of sight. There’s a dining table for meals outdoors, along with separate seating and a bistro style table for relaxing morning coffee. Just beyond the gate, you’ll find a secure grassed area shared with our lovely neighbour.

The Neighborhood:
Skinningrove is a small, quiet and friendly fishing village with a rich mining history. But Skinningrove’s best secret is Cattersty Sands, a beautiful golden beach, dog-friendly all year round and less than a five-minute easy stroll from Stone Row Cottage. Secluded and unspoilt, with easy access and no steps or steep slopes, it’s a peaceful spot to go for a stroll and breathe in the sea air.
The Cleveland Way coastal path also runs right through Skinningrove, with stunning walks on the doorstep. You can head north towards Saltburn-by-the-Sea or south towards Staithes, both offering incredible sea views and cliff-top scenery. If you walk the coastal path to Saltburn-by-the-Sea, you can always hop on the bus back to the village.

There’s so much to explore from Stone Row. Saltburn-by-the-Sea and Staithes are both less than 15 minutes away, while Whitby is just half an hour’s drive. You’ll also find heritage train stations at Goathland and Grosmont, and picture-perfect villages including Runswick Bay, Staithes, Robin Hood’s Bay, Lealholm and Glaisdale - all surrounded by dramatic coastline and moorland scenery.
That’s what makes Stone Row in Skinningrove perfectly situated - whether you’re staying local or heading farther afield, the breathtaking North York Moors National Park are only a 10-minute drive away.
In Skinningrove itself you’ll find a traditional fish and chip shop and KasKane, a friendly, dog-friendly bar/restaurant (booking advised) just a short walk from the cottage, along with the Land of Iron, an educational and immersive museum giving a fascinating glimpse into the village’s mining heritage.
Just a 5-minute drive away, the nearby town of Loftus has a Co-op, Morrisons and several takeaways for all your everyday needs.
