Overview The Old Granary is a stylish, characterful barn in the peaceful hamlet of Quemerford Gate, near Calne in Wiltshire. Blue Room: Two singles and a double in divided spaces, ideal for families or children.
Yellow Room: Downstairs small double with ensuite shower, sink, and toilet (also used as cloakroom).
Grey Room: Double sofa bed, TV, sliding doors to the front. Works as an extra bedroom, office, or sitting room.
Living areas The large open-plan Granary Room includes a comfortable lounge, dining area, and eclectic décor with antiques, guitars, and art. Just returned from a wonderful Christmas at this gorgeous place. Lovely relaxing stay with great walks from the door, which the dog loved! Great communication before and throughout with the owner, who was so helpful. The house itself was immaculately clean and we loved the quirkiness of the place with all sorts of amazing pieces of art. The house was very pet and child friendly with stair gates, a high chair and travel cot, as well as a cot in one of the bedrooms if you need it. The beds were wonderfully comfortable and the house had everything we needed to be a real home from home. Cannot rate highly enough!

We had a long weekend with friends at the property, which is exactly as it looks in the photos. Nice rooms, big kitchen and a large living space with really cool decor. Lots of lovely walks nearby and a local town within 10 minutes drive so easy to get to.

What a fabulous stay! Family birthday celebration with ages 19-76 year old and all impressed with the accommodation. Quirky and eclectic mix that just works. The house has everything you could need for an over night stay to a long stay... and more!
Enough room for all to come together or have your own space. COmmunication with Elly was 1st class with quick responses. We all felt at home and didn't want to leave!

Just what we wanted
We were in Wiltshire visiting family and touring round villages with a view to relocating. We really couldn’t have chosen a better base. The Granary was spacious, great for entertaining, quirky, lovely internal decoration (we enjoyed the guitars). Family came round with two small children who scampered around the colourful and well stocked garden. The property is conveniently located for Calne and wider Wiltshire. One thing that particularly impressed us was that it was very well stocked - bread, butter and jams on arrive, tea, coffee and sugar and much much more. Will definitely return with our rescue dog Jack. Thanks for the fantastic experience!

Stylish country cottage for family together
Our family stayed here for the summer solstice at Stonehenge and visiting nearby Avebury, Bath, Salisbury and Glastonbury and found it a special retreat for family bonding. We were able to cook up some lovely meals while watching the rest of the family play and relax in the garden. We enjoyed movie nights in the living room in front of the non-heating fireplace. There were enough rooms to spread out. We especially enjoyed the garden and how well maintained the lawn was so we could do family yoga and play games in the fresh air. Ella the host was super responsive and had soap and supplies overnighted as soon as we reported some were running low. She was also very open to feedback that some cleaning supplies and pantry items were outdated and needed to be replaced, etc. Although the property is decorated in a glam style it also has a lived in vibe so you feel you are visiting a friends cozy home. This is definitely a unique and special property!

Lovely property with some problems.
First impressions were good. Property is is a nice location and we loved the quirky decor. However, we struggled to warm the main living area and spent the trip huddled under blankets and occasionally in coats. The upstairs rooms were roasting hot, as was the downstairs bedroom and the provided heater warmed the second living area/bedroom sufficiently if put on a short while before we went to bed. The Aga was, I was told, switched on prior to our arrival but it never managed a temperature above vaguely warm, meaning we struggled to cook our Christmas lunch with the single oven and probably contributed to the heating problems in the main living area. Generally clean, but one bathroom’s toilet hadn’t been cleaned properly and there were a number of minor things which could have been cleaner. Overall we enjoyed our family Christmas trip but the heating issues did take the shine off.

I am sorry that you felt the need to leave a 3 star review, we have never had anything but 5 star reviews from 60+ guests since opening in April last year. Since your stay (the first of which arrived the same day you left we have had 3 more 5 star reviews).
I feel the need to point out that once you had established that the fire was not plugged in you had said that you were satisfied with the heat. Had you not have been I could have arranged for additional heating. You requested we send an engineer within 30 minutes of arrival where upon finding that the sitting room fire was functioning but had been plugged into to an extension instead of the mains.
The aga is not connected to the heating in anyway and is left at an ambient temperature with a dial to turn it up, so your assumption that it was affecting the heating is also unfounded. I emailed you twice to ask you about the Aga heat and got not response until you emailed late at night on the last night of your stay. Had you let us know we could have helped you with operating it! Agas are not easy. As it was you had a fully functioning oven and hob as well as the microwave which has a grill and convection oven. There is also a large roasting BBQ and you could have had an additional warming plate. You did not mention anything so we had no idea you would have liked more help.
As I said I tried to contact you and you did not reply. It is a shame that this has happened. The cleaners did mention the house and rubbish was not left particularly neatly and the neighbours were quite shocked at some of your interactions in the drive.
We wish you the best but perhaps our period property is not the right sort of place for you and your family.

The Granary has an eclectic vibe all of its own. Firstly to say, we are currently refurbishing the house with a new kitchen, bathroom, water system and decorating throughout. We are ahead of schedule and work will be complete well before our first guests arrive in May. There is accommodation for 8 people in various different formats, as well as a beautiful garden to enjoy with a covered pergola seating 12 people. Our garden is secure and as dog owners ourselves we welcome well behaved dogs.

Bowood House and Gardens is nearby, there are golf courses, a spa, local swimming pools and a small motor museum. Slightly further a field you can visit Lacock, Stonehenge, Bath, Bradford on Avon, Cirencester, Cotswold Water Park and Longleat. There are artist open studios, cycling clubs and equestrian facilities, as well as canals and farmers markets.
