Traveling south from Lochmaddy, you'll reach the small town of Carinish after about 10 miles; from there, you may reach the causeway that will take you to Benbecula. The airport at Balivanich, Benbecula, also serves as a car rental hub, post office, bank, restaurant, and gas station. From Benbecula, you can reach South Uist through a bridge.
