Explore an entire castle whilst staying in historical splendour.

Mary Queen of Scot's chamber at Neidpath Castle is perhaps the most romantic place to stay in the Scottish Borders. Explore privately the whole castle and then retire to enjoy your suite rooms. The antique four poster bed, deep roll top bath and open fire evoke earlier times, but are truly comfortable and luxurious. An elegant table is set for breakfast. Peebles is 10 minutes walk away, with a host of shops and restaurants, as well as a museum and award winning chocolatier.
The space
There is a small kitchenette with fridge, kettle and delicious provisions for a continental breakfast. Dinner can be served by prior arrangement.
Guest access
Guests can explore the whole castle at their leisure. There is only the one bedroom suite.
Other things to note
The chamber is on the 2nd floor of the castle, with no lift access.

Second stay

Second time we have stayed at Neidpath Castle, but this time it was for our wedding. Neidpath is an amazing place to stay, with so much to explore around the Castle. The castle has everything you could need, and the staff are just a message away if you need anything. All of the staff are excellent!

Exceptional

We stayed here for our Wedding and I felt like Royalty! I don’t think I’ll ever get to experience something like this in my life and I’m so glad we did. The history behind this room and the regality that surrounds you when you stay here is a feeling like no other. Everything was exceptional, the room, the staff and the castle itself. Definitely worth staying.

Queens of the castle for a night!

We had a brilliant stay at Neidpath! This 14th century castle is absolutely gorgeous and we loved that most it remains as original as possible and practical. We met the owner Lulu who was a delight and manager Katarina was brilliant in explaining the history of the castle and showing us everything we needed to know. The real bonus is that you have the whole castle to yourself to explore which is absolutely wonderful. It’s quiet, and peaceful and the supplied breakfast in the kitchen cupboard is fabulous. The balconies give breathtaking views both up and down the river and the dungeon is an added bonus. There’s also plenty of places to hike and take amazing photos of the castle from a million different angles - which we did. An unforgettable unique stay well worth the cost and a fabulous way to start our Scotland holiday.

So Atmospheric

I had a wonderful 2 night stay at Neidpath Castle. I can’t believe I got to have the entire castle to myself when booking the room. It could get a little creepy but I was looking for those kinds of vibes, while the chamber itself was incredibly cosy and comfortable. It’s such a unique experience staying there. The surrounding areas were also breathtaking. I went on a hike around the area and came across a viaduct and abandoned train tunnel which just added to the experience, plus the town of Peebles was lovely to explore too. A great place to stay.

Sleeping in Scottish History

I knew our stay at Neidpath would be memorable when I booked it but our stay was more wonderful than we expected. I wasn't looking for modern luxury. I wanted authentic and history. We got all of it and more! We stayed in 6 different hotels during our visit to Scotland and most of the beds were very firm and not very comfortable. The bed in Queen Mary's Chamber was medium firm yet super comfortable, and the pillows and comforter were dreamy. We felt like royalty! Words can't describe the experience of relaxing in the sitting room and watching the fire or enjoying the setting sun over the forest and river from the roof. Incredible care has been taken to preserve this historic tower, and we are deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to experience its magic firsthand. We cannot recommend it highly enough and look forward to our next visit!

Lovely

Really lovely and comfortable accomodation. Very well equipped with a sitting area, table and chairs, and a well stocked pantry with a mini fridge. Lots of character. We had a lovely time.

Amazing place!

It was really cool having a whole castle to ourselves for the night. There is clearly a lot of history here. Nice to be able to explore. Keep an eye out for the secret room! The price is very reasonable for having a whole castle to yourself. The caretakers we met were wonderful, very friendly and helpful. Peebles is a lovely little town where we were able to find restaurants and shops. Overall a great experience.

You feel very lucky if you can stay here

I really cannot put into words how priceless this experience was. It is a bucket list venue. My sons and I had the entire castle, to ourselves, for the night to celebrate a 21st birthday. What an amazing place. Katarina is thee perfect property manager...she has been there 20 years so she really knows every guests vibe and needs. It is truly a once in a lifetime visit...but really, you just leave, knowing that you have to go back. Thankyou for letting us learn about the history, and literally living it.

Romantic accommodation

We stayed in the Queen Mary Chambers at Neidpath castle for our wedding. The accommodation was the perfect setting for our pre and post wedding night. The room was clean and had all the amenities we needed. It is such a romantic and beautiful setting and the bed was so comfortable. We would highly recommend staying here.

Historic experience

Our stay was amazing. The castle and outdoor setting were so beautiful. Having the experience to be on our own in this incredible place was most memorable and truly was our best accommodation on our whole trip! (Actually for all our travels).We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the castle and our rooms were so cozy and comfortable. Our thanks go to the staff for a smooth transaction and a welcoming overview.. A magical and memorable stay

We took the bus from Edinburgh on a wet and dreary afternoon. When we arrived into Peebles and got to Neidpath, the sun was out without a cloud in the sky. I think that says more about how special our stay was than the weather in Scotland.

Katarina was a great host very helpful. She made use feel very welcome. The castle is great there is so much history that’s on display. Really it was a great stay and I couldn’t ask for any better. I highly recommend the stay it’s well worth it.

Fun and luxury at the castle

We shared a magical night exploring and feeling pampered in our castle for the night. Host walked us through beautifully and left us to find the fun rooms and special touches throughout the castle. We had all the modern conveniences in a setting kept true to the original feel of the castle. We really felt like royalty. Food was wonderful too. Thank you Katrina for setting things up for us. I just wish I could keep this jewel a secret so we could book it again!
