Characterful cottage in heart of Dolgellau
This characterful self catering cottage is in the heart of Dolgellau, in Snowdonia National Park, North Wales. It's in a quiet location but close to the many places to eat, drink and shop in historic Dolgellau.
The little stone cottage sleeps 3 in 2 bedrooms. It has been stylishly refurbished with a sparkling new bathroom and kitchen. Located in a peaceful and unspoilt area of Snowdonia National Park, it’s a convenient, comfortable town base for couples, friends or a small family.
Location
Dolgellau (pronounced a little like “Dol-geth-lie”) is a traditional Welsh market town. The cottage is just off the main square in a quiet courtyard. You are just a few steps away from cafes, excellent restaurants and welcoming pubs. There are many walks from your door into the spectacular mountain landscape of Cader Idris or the scenic Mawddach Estuary Trail. The beaches of Fairbourne and Barmouth are a short drive away.
Inside
The Victorian cottage is cosy and compact with colourful vintage touches, period features and a new kitchen and bathroom. Walk in through a small room with a dining table and chairs. Make yourself at home in a comfortable arm chair and plan your days out with the local maps provided. There is central heating for instant warmth in every room.To the right is a snug lounge with a sofa and easy chair. If you’re not popping into town to eat out, the large digital TV means you can relax after a day exploring and log into your Netflix or the i-Player. There’s good WiFi too if you need to stay connected.
The modern kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher, fridge, full sized oven with electric hob, washing machine and tumble dryer. There’s also a microwave, a cafetière and food mixer. Whether you’re preparing a lazy breakfast, picnic lunch or special meal you’ll find all the cooking utensils you need. The bathroom is on the ground floor with a bath and overhead rain shower.
A steep and narrow flight of stairs leads to 2 bedrooms. The double bedroom has a bay window looking across the slate rooftops of Dolgellau to the surrounding hills. The double bed has a deep mattress and crisp cotton bed linen. There are upcycled bedside tables and lights on each side of the bed. The second bedroom has one single bed and plenty of storage space. The large window looks across Listed stone buildings opposite and fills the room with plenty of light.
Who is this Cottage suitable for?
Couples, friends or families with one child who wish to be in the heart of Dolgellau. Guests with children should note there is a door but no stair gate between the bedrooms and the steep stairs. People with mobility issues may find these stairs between the bedrooms and downstairs bathroom challenging. There are 11 steps and the stairs have a bit of a twist at the bottom. For this reason we do not recommend the cottage for families with toddlers or those who find stairs a challenge. There’s a table and chairs outside the front door to enjoy watching the world go by, but no outdoor space. Dogs are welcome and there are good walks from the door.

Über den Gastgeber
Zu Gast bei Sarah Heyworth

The Cottage in Dolgellau is managed by John and Sarah who also run the nearby Graig Wen holiday accommodation nearby on the Mawddach Estuary. John refurbished the former home of his Dad Peter, who was an art and craft teacher. You’ll see some of the attractive ceramics Peter made on the colourful Welsh dresser and around the house and other family artworks.
John and Sarah packed up their lives in Brighton in 2006 and left town with their dogs in an old motorhome. We discovered this special corner of Snowdonia after a year on the open road – we had found the wild escape of our dreams.

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft
We are walkers and cyclists ourselves and our love of the mountains has taken us to teahouses in the Himalayas and hostels in the Alps. We think Eryri / Snowdonia National Park is hard to beat! Our lurchers Bryn and Franklin love the local beach walks and wanders around the ancient woodlands.
The sense of community in this quiet area is very warm. We have felt genuinely welcomed by locals, many of whom have lived here for generations. The sense of Welsh identity and cultural heritage is strong, and fascinating.
We also love the excellent range of independent shops, cafes and cosy pubs. You won't find many high street brands around here but you will find friendly service in excellent bakeries, butchers and quirky shops. There is a good choice of high quality places to eat from fine dining to possibly best the best home made cakes served anywhere in Wales!
We feel incredibly privileged to call Snowdonia home. It’s our pleasure to share it with others.
