We had an amazing holiday at Casa Marmelo! Everything we needed was in the villa and Helena’s breakfasts were fantastic. Great base to explore the Douro Valley.

Everything was better than expected. Food, hospitality, responsiveness, material sent in advance to assist in planning was amazing. Helena was extremely helpful. I highly recommend Casa Marmelo.

Cycling trip to Portugal

The house was even beyond our high expectations. Beautifully situated above the Douro River, extremely well equipped, excellent breakfasts, wonderful amenities and layout. Kate and Gary could not have been more responsive and helpful hosts. A thoroughly great experience.

The most fantastic experience ever!

The house and location were more amazing and gorgeous than the pictures reflect. Everything was done with impeccable taste, and with every luxury possible, including a full breakfast buffet every morning served by the wonderful Helena. The hostess Kate was incredibly responsive to every question, text and phone call. We felt so well taken care of! We are definitely coming back next year and can’t wait!

Our delightful week at Casa Marmelo

We LOVED our week at Casa Marmelo, and everything was absolutely wonderful, especially Helena. She is the gem of Casa Marmelo, and the views are the BEST! We wanted for nothing, as the house was very well stocked and decorated. We loved the pool and used it daily, everyone loved their rooms, and the VIEWS!!! We also appreciated all the assistance in dinner reservations, setting up taxi’s, and airport drivers for those leaving early.We loved it so much that we truly hope to return one day. Thanks so much!!

Amazing House!

During our non-stop travels around Portugal Fall of ‘24 we craved a spot to fully unpack and relax for a few days and this listing definitely fit the bill. Amazing house! The Owner/Mgr couldn’t have been more helpful, with great communications. And Helena was so kind and generous with her time and energy. Located on the historic train line Along the Douro, it’s an easy, scenic 1-hr train ride to wineries in Pinhão and beyond. And the view is worth the trip. Highly Recommend!

Incredible views, luxury accommodations

This place was so incredible that it ruined every place we stayed after on this trip. Helena was very accommodating, and was very patient with our poor Portuguese. The views were astounding, the pool was wonderful, and breakfasts were a true feast! We enjoyed our walk across the bridge, a train trip to Pinhão, and many relaxed evenings in the villa. I strongly recommend picking up groceries on the way in, though, of. It was tough to drive a large vehicle on tiny roads,

Absolutely excellent

The villa is just incredible. The view is one of the best I have ever seen and we felt so lucky to have been able to stay here and see it every day. Every comfort and convenience has been thought of even including hairdryers in the bathroom. Helena (housekeeper) is so lovely and an excellent cook. She took care of us very well. We only had to ask and she would accommodate us. She made sure everything was working in the kitchen. The information given to us before our arrival was excellent and meant we could plan our visits to various places and restaurants nearby. I would recommend this villa absolutely.

A little piece of paradise in the Douro Valley

This property is stunning. It is everything you see in the pictures and more. Every aspect of the villa is high quality. The view, the living space, the awesome breakfasts prepared by Helena and the information provided by Kate were all exceptional. We were a party of 6, but there is lots of room for 4 couples to spend time together or find a quiet place to read. We loved everything about this property and I know it would have been even better if the weather cooperated. The only thing to be aware of is driving in the valley and the access road to the villa requires your full attention. When you are planning your excursions, keep in mind covering territory takes time and you will owe a big thank you to your driver who will have to stay away from the great local wines until the car is safely back in the driveway.

Beyond Paradise

We were a family group of eight coming from different places in the US to celebrate my birthday. Even now members of the family are posting pictures and saying that this was the best vacation they have ever had. Casa Marmelo is exquisite, immaculately maintained with every detail included. Communication with the hosts was amazing, with a detailed book of suggestions of restaurants and activities, which we made much use of, and we received email updates during our stay. Per our hosts suggestion, we booked Chef Pedro to prepare a delicious meal on site for my birthday. And breakfasts—Helena, assisted some days, made amazing breakfasts, and her generous, caring spirit started every day with joy. She is a treasure. If you book, your expectations will be exceeded. Please do keep in mind that roads are narrow, often cobblestone, and navigation even by satellite can be faulty. Casa Marmelo is beyond paradise and will abide in our hearts. Thank you!

Exceeded our expectations

From the moment you arrive and are greeted by the housekeeper, Helena, this property has thought of everything to make your vacation comfortable. The house is situated with a spectacular view into the Douro Valley, and the house is appointed in such a way that it feels like home including the home baked cake included in our welcome basket. We wish we had scheduled a second week there.

Stunning villa

This villa is quite simply stunning. The standard of everything in the villa is extremely high. The arrangeents made by the team there, was also outstanding. After travelling for over 40 years, this has to be one of the nicest places we have ever stayed in....all in quite breathtaking natural surroundings.
