The roar of the white paint, the smell of the passers-by.
On entering for the first time, the overwhelming impression was the smell of paint. The whole place had been painted white all over including all of the woodwork. Unfortunately a strong smelling gloss had been used. A water based low odour paint would have been much more agreeable. Within two days I developed a bad cold which I couldn’t shake off. With the time of year that could have been coincidental of course.
Ventilating the flat was compromised by the design of the windows which included floor to ceiling glass doors which couldn’t be left open in a ground floor flat. A triumph of design over function. An additional tilt and turn window would have helped. The shower was easy to use but of the overhead type. Not my favourite. It wasn’t obvious where my rubbish should go.
But now for the good bits. The heating was very simple to use. The cooker likewise. I liked the washing machine, the dishwasher and the microwave. Three big ticks. The kitchen was very well supplied with crockery, utensils and pans etc. Good supply of towels and bedding. Handy for shopping at Waitrose if you can afford it.
