Views of the Picos de Europa in a house designed for all seasons
Our prices include discounts for stays of 7 nights or more, outside high season.
Situated on a sunny crest, Pulieru has incredible views of the snow capped Picos de Europa mountains, with underfloor heating and a log burner.
You'll be surrounded by nature and rolling hills, in an ideal location for visiting the mountains or the rugged Asturian coastline. After a day exploring you can retreat to your warm and cozy home, renovated in 2021 to a modern standard with efficient aerothermal under-floor heating, modern glazing and a wood burning stove. From your toasty vantage point you'll be able to watch the changing landscapes through the enormous windows of the lounge, kitchen/diner or covered balcony on the upper floor, the balcony is perfect for an alfresco breakfast.
The lounge has books, games and good WIFI to enjoy Netflix and Spotify on the smart TV and bluetooth speaker, so you can really feel at home. There is also a fully equipped kitchen with low energy appliances (oven, induction hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and washing machine).
The local market town of Cangas de Onís is only 15 mins away, with all the amenities you need for great stay.
Pulieru is ideal for 2-6 people, with flexibility for couples, families or friends. Two ensuite bedrooms are located downstairs, one in the house, and one in the adjoining former barn, each has the option of one super-king-sized bed (180 x 200cm) or 2 single beds (90 x 200cm). The large lounge has a real fold-down king-sized bed (160 x 200m), not a sofa-bed, and it’s own shower-room.
The private terrace in front of the house, with bbq and outside kitchen is a great spot to watch the sun go down, accompanied by the gentle jangle of Asturian cow bells (and possibly a gin and tonic).
Family items such as a travel cot, high chair, stair gate and baby bath are also available if required.
The house is totally self-contained, not connected to other buildings and is solely for the use of one group of guests at a time. It is part of a traditional farm that also has a beautiful original barn, a small workshop and another restored barn 50 metres away from the main house, where we live, we’re the owners - Ben and Jen! The buildings sit on 2.5 hectares of pasture and woodland which you're welcome to explore. During the renovation it was important to us to retain traditional features. For this reason you’ll find a blend of old and new, for instance modern grey windows alongside rustic wooden pillars on the balcony and chestnut joists that have been repurposed as furniture. Access to the farm is via a 200 meter gravel track - good for standard cars, but sporty cars with low ground clearance will need to take extra care.
The local area is begging to be explored by foot, car, motorbike, mountain bike or road bike. Local highlights include the Lakes of Covadonga and surrounding routes in the Picos de Europa National Park, the Basilica of Covadonga, the peak of Monfrechu (which you can walk to directly from Pulieru), Cangas de Onís with its Roman bridge and Sunday market, the Fitu Viewpoint, the Ruta del Cares, Bulnes, Sotres and Ponga Natural Park, and that’s just the mountain area! Don’t forget the rugged Northern coastline with gorgeous beaches such as Playa del Cuevas, Playa de Vega, Playa Torimba, Playa de Po, the inland beach of Playa Gulpyuri and the fishing towns of Ribadasella and Llanes.
Lots of activities are also possible, such as nature tours, bird watching, wild swimming, kayaking, canyoning, rafting, surfing and paddle boarding. There are also some great restaurants waiting for a visit.
We’re super excited for what you’ll discover and would be happy to offer any help or advice you need to make the most of your stay. If you'd like more information about Pulieru or the local area please get in touch.

Zu Gast bei Jen & Ben

Hi – we’re Ben and Jen!
A mutual love of travel and music brought us together well over a decade ago. At that time Ben had just returned from three years working all over the world in the adventure tourism industry, and Jen from a trip to Alaska. We were returning to work in our less glamorous careers, Ben as a professional engineer in the auto industry, and Jen as a logistics manager for a large distribution company.
Soon after meeting we went away for short breaks in Madrid, and later for the San Mateo music festival in Oviedo, Asturias’s capital. Both are fantastic places, but Asturias excited us immediately. In fact before we landed, as the descent into Asturias airport gives some stunning views of Asturias’s dramatic coastline and the snow-capped Picos de Europa mountains (the mountains that now dominate the view from our home at Pulieru).
In 2012 we went big on travelling and took a year-out to drive our Land Rover from our home in the UK to Cape Town. This was every bit the adventure we had been dreaming of. We took the eastern route and took it slowly, enjoying each part of the journey.
After returning to our careers in the UK, the dream of a more simple life, closer to nature grew and Asturias was in our minds again. Through 2014 – 2016 we visited Asturias many times, considering the idea of a move. Finally, in May 2017, we decided that we just had to go for it. In the space of a week we handed in our notices, sold our house and bought our camper van. We drove out of the UK in June 2017.

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft
After looking at more than fifty properties we fell in love with Pulieru. The state of the dilapidated house and barns was somewhat daunting but the views and opportunity to create something really special was unrivalled. Whilst slightly terrifying we knew we had to do it, and in September 2018 we finally got the keys.
Since then we have been navigating planning rules and building renovation but found an amazing team of architect, surveyor and builders to help us realise our dream. Finally , we are ready for guests in summer 2021, and we’re so excited to start sharing this special corner of the world, we hope you’ll come and stay!

Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig
The house has been designed with guests in mind, centred on the view and to provide something a little different. Asturian properties are traditionally quite dark with small windows, We felt it was essential to bring the incredible views into the house and fill it with light, and so the main living areas now have enormous modern windows and doors that bring the outside inside. The house still feels cozy though with some exposed stones walls, a wood burning stove, and underfloor heating throughout, heated using a modern aerothermal heat pump.
The house has been designed to be enjoyed in all seasons either on a beautiful summers day, or equally watching the mountain weather roll past from a toasty vantage point. We’ve also found that the lounge is a lovely spot to watch birdlife and if you’re lucky you may also see roe deer or wild cat.
