Unfortunately I find myself writing an overwhelmingly negative review that requires two sections, the first deals with the most major issues including a security incident, the second has to do with relatively minor issues that the owners might choose to take care of to add value to their unit.
Upon arrival we found bedsheets with hairs embedded in them, including what looked like pubes. Nasty. The bare floors did not appear to have been cleaned either as water was spilled and when I wiped it up the paper towel was brown. Additionally the rug in the living room still had food on it from previous guests, and the couch had what looked like the remains of a chocolate bar embedded in the fabric. Gross. To cap it off, the ad indicated that there would be both a standard coffee maker and a Keurig. We brought our favorite coffees only to find no standard coffee maker, only the Keurig. Staff brought us a coffeemaker the following afternoon and cleaned the unit. Which brings me to the security issue. We received a call around 11am from Smoky Vistas that someone was enroute to deliver the coffeemaker and clean. We arrived back at our unit around 5:30 that evening to find the door unlocked and ajar. Whoever was there earlier failed to lock and secure the door. We're fortunate that no one happened upon it and decided to take our things! The response form SV when I complained? A canned text saying "Sorry for this. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns". What a joke.
As to the minor things, we noticed that all the mattresses were not only hard as a rock but appeared to be older as the fabric webbing underneath was shredded to bits, while the furniture looks brand new. Weird?! And back to the couch, aside from it being dirty, it should be replaced as it had holes in the fabric with stuffing sticking out and the cushions on one end were completely shot. The unit overall is nice and is new construction so we had no issues with any mechanicals or appliances, the lone exception being the front door lock which required you to hold the door closed when locking and unlocking from the outside, otherwise the automatic lock would not lock or unlock. Minor annoyance, not a deal breaker. We rent VRBOs every time we go out of town and all of our experiences to this point have been positive, so I guess law of averages says we will have a bad experience at some point. Improve your averages by not renting from Smoky Vistas.
