We spent Thanksgiving with family in town. It was nice to have our own place. My daughter loves horses and enjoyed the trail rides. The lack of TV signal allowed us to spend some quality family time watching the provided DVDs or playing games. This was a Thanksgiving to remember. A beautiful cabin with gracious hosts. Thank you!
My husband and I came down to NC from Michigan for his monthly visit with his 4 kids. This adorable horse-themed cottage was a welcome respite from the endless hotel rooms we usually get! The first words from all of us when we entered the cottage for the first time was "This is so cute!" However, even with 4 teenage kids and 2 adults, the place never seemed crowded-that was amazing to me!! Everyone had their own bed. The kids reaaly loved the VHS player in the bedroom. They watched movies they hadn't seen since they were "little". Nostalgia in teenagers-not something I ever thought I'd see...The cottage was clean and neat with all the essentials for the weekend. Being near the barn and the horse paddocks was a real treat. We didn't get to ride, but we did go through 2 large bags of carrots! The pool connected to the house was lovely. Lori and her family were amazing hosts. Lori's young sons are skilled tour guides and were very helpful. The pond did have some natural algae issues initially, but our hosts bent over backward to get it cleared up in time for the kids to get in some paddle boarding. All in all, I would recommend this place for a relaxing country getaway. We will be back! The kids insisted!!
It was a great visit for my young family and I, with lots to do right there on the property, but I think there would be many who would have a hard time staying here. First of all, you need to know you are staying in someone's backyard. The house is a good 100 yards away but that was not something that was clear to me before booking. It wasn't very clean, there was dried food on the ground, cobwebs, flies, the dishes were not as clean as I would have liked (NO DISHWASHER either), and the silverware tray was pretty dirty. Mold on the ceiling in the bathroom, soap silt running down the shower wall, dirt accumulation on the walls/doors etc. It was clean enough for me and 4 kids for a weekend, but I was repeatedly surprised by the level of cleanliness. Just not what I've grown to expect from VRBO's. Also, the kayaking pond was SUPER gross! A bubbly brown film covering the water, 2 dead fish floating around... I was scared to touch that water! The lifejackets were strewn all over the ground, my daughter got several bites picking one up. I'm making it sound so bad, but it didn't ruin our weekend. My kids braved the nasty pond because the lure of the kayaks was just too much, and they loved it. We swam in the pool (RIGHT next to the owner's house so be prepared for that, that was a little uncomfortable for me), and loved it, went horseback riding and loved it. My kids loved the bunkbed only sleeping and like I said, it worked just fine for me. But I KNOW there are people it would have really grossed out. Just so you know what you're getting yourself into!
My daughters, 2 year old grandson and I had a wonderful experience staying on their property. Lori and her family were more than accommodating in supplying everything we needed to make our stay as comfortable as possible. My grandson had a blast playing on the playground, swimming in the pool and watching the horses run around the pasture during the day. The property is within a 15-20 minute drive of the shopping mall and about a 30 minute drive to Downtown Charlotte so it never took long to get to where we needed to be.
This wasn't even on my radar -- grateful for VBRO or we would never have thought to stay here. Horses right outside our front door. Hosts were inclusive but not intrusive. The children were like little tour guides! Hope they get a cut of profit haha. We recommend you take advantage of the horse riding if you stay! We chose to stay an entire week during our moving transition between the sale and purchase of our home. What a peaceful serenity to be in during such a stressful time. Dog friendly-check! Kid amenities-check! We highly recommend this family experience. Thank you to such personable hosts with such a clean farm and wonderful amenities!
