The villa in Arcangues was absolutely perfect. We loved the big pool, and the fact that each bedroom was so large and had its own bathroom, which made it easy for us to have some privacy. The kitchen was easy to use and we loved how peaceful and quiet the property was. We ate outside every night where there was plenty of seating. And Viveca was so responsive to everything we needed!
We went to the Docks every day – you won't find a better gâteau Basque than the one at Docks Délices, the chocolates from Didier Gaborit are divine, the café is friendly and fun, and you can get anything you need from the butcher and fruit and vegetable stand.
The property is convenient to all the beaches. We loved Bidart, Guéthary, Côte des Basques, St. Jean de Luz, and more. We were able to get to and from the house easily, which made exploring the area a lot of fun.
We stayed for two weeks, and appreciated having a house cleaning in the middle of our stay. Every part of the house was immaculate, and all the appliances are in excellent working order. There is even an ice maker! I see other people mentioned mosquitos – we're from South Carolina and used to them, but they're definitely there. We found it helpful to get some plug-in mosquito repellers for each room. As I mentioned, we ate outside every night and found the bugs to be minimal.
The outside area is so lovely, it deserves its own review. As mentioned, the pool is very large. There are several lounge chairs with cushions, perfect for afternoon reading or napping. There is a badminton net and equipment, which we used every day. The outdoor dining table is enormous and covered, so even if it's raining a little, you can eat there. There's a grill if you want to cook outside – or you could go to Barbakoa, a nearby restaurant (five minute drive) in Biarritz in an equestrian clubhouse where they specialize in grilled meat and fish.
We would go back in a heartbeat. Thank you so much to Viveca, Émilie, Sandrine, and the home owners for a perfect vacation!
