We are just back from a lovely week's stay at Casita Del Mar. It's a great location in Coral Bay - a quiet and beautiful oasis close to important amenities! The oversize screened porch has a bay view and is a great place to spread out the map and plan your next outing. The furnishings are very tasteful with high-end touches - hardwood floors, beautiful stone shower, granite counter tops. The small washer and dryer make it possible to pack lightly; ceiling fans keep the air moving. There was AC in the bedroom but we did not need it. The kitchen is well equipped for serious cooking and the Dolphin Market, just a short walk away, has everything you need. Aqua Bistro, a very nice restaurant, is in the some shopping complex and several other restaurants are also nearby. Coral Bay is within 20 minutes of many of the best beaches and snorkeling -Salt Pond, Little Lameshure, Haulover, Honeymoon, Cinnamon, Trunk, and Leinster, to name a few we tried. This was a our second stay at Casita Del Mar and we were so happy to return!
Second year in a row returning to lovely Casita Del Mar. What's not to like! It's tastefully and comfortably decorated, has a well equipped kitchen and grill, and is in a really great location (screened porch looks over Coral Bay – just picked by the NY Times as 1 of 50 or so places to see in 2016!). Convenience abounds as it's just a short uphill walk from a great restaurant, grocery store, cute shops and snorkel rentals. Beds are comfy. Breezes delicious. Best to have a car but also accessible via cab and bus (the Salt Pond route). Only wish I could have stayed longer than 1 week.
We stayed at Casita Del Mar for our first trip to St John. We were a little unsure if we’d regret not being in the middle things in Cruz Bay…but we made a great decision!
The villa has been very tastefully finished, we loved the detail of the woodwork and the exposed beams. The open layout was so great for preparing meals while still enjoying the view of the harbor out of the screened porch. The breeze coming through is fantastic and for those less breezy times there are ample ceiling fans to keep the air flowing. We also really enjoyed having the AC in the bedroom at night time and not sure we would do St John again without one (for sleeping). The washer dryer was also a great convenience and we were able to do a load of sweaty/salty clothes (which happens when you’re out exploring all day!) We found all the kitchen supplies sufficient for the basic food prep we did. Used the gas grill a few times for dinner which was great.
The villa is in an ideal location with access to the conveniences of the grocery and dining options in Coral Bay. We were able to do all of our grocery shopping right down at the Dolphin market and if you don’t mind a little bit of a hill, it’s even a walkable distance. We loved having easy access to the east end beaches for some great snorkeling spots but also didn’t feel like we were too far from everything that the north shore has to offer.
Zero hesitation to recommend this great little villa. We had such a great time on St John and can’t wait to be back someday.
We booked this property due to the location in Coral Bay and the recently renovated property. Our first night was great but we had hesitations about the newly renovated bedroom with respect to privacy. The bedroom windows had no shades and the glass door directed towards the road. We mentioned this but were assured of the safe location and privacy of the property. The problem is that it is too private. Despite locking the doors and windows, we arrived back to our house in the late afternoon after a day at the beach. We observed that the property had been broken into (entry via bedroom window) upon return from the beach. We left the property and upon returning a masked robber ran off into the woods with our valuables.
Management was helpful in promptly meeting us at the house. They offered to secure the residence that night but were seemingly surprised by our request to stay at a different property (broken glass and blood was everywhere at the house!). They eventually obliged and provided the only property they had available. Unfortunately, it was not nearly the same quality as the rented property and was only partially cleaned.
At the end of the trip we met with the management company and informed them that we would like to make sure the property was made safe for the next families. As we felt we had been watched, we requested 1) a safe, 2) blinds on the bedroom windows, 3) Solid door instead of glass door to bedroom. We also requested a partial refund of our expenses (minus management fee and cleaning expense) given our significant loss and disruption while staying at the home. After weeks of follow-up, only a safe was installed and no partial refund provided. This seemed unacceptable to us, particularly regarding safety to future renters. We also found out that a person had been watching the property from the woods the preceding months (not good given bedroom privacy issues).
Regarding the house: The renovations to the kitchen, bathroom, and new bedroom are great. I think the pictures speak for themselves. Unfortunately, as per above, it is too private and unsafe.
