The Winfield Mill was constructed in the late 1800s just two blocks from the Gatesville town square and Coryell County Courthouse. The Mill overlooks a bluff that leads down to the Stillhouse Branch of the Leon River. It was an operating grist (corn) mill until the late 1970s and retains many historic features.
Inside, Stonewall Mill House features a large open living, dining, and kitchen space with plenty of room for all to be comfortable. There is a wide selection of indoor and outdoor games, cards, dominoes, and a 9 foot shuffleboard table. Enjoy a fully stocked kitchen with brand new amenities, there is Wi-Fi throughout and a monitor/desk for gaming or working.
Outside, you can choose to grill and chill on the covered patio with a wonderful view and beautiful Texas sunsets or take it all in from the patio side pool (pool is open May-October). In the evening and early morning, deer can often be seen on the property.
The Mill House is on the edge of 3.5 acres that you can explore. We have a large backyard field with a view of the courthouse available for outdoor games. There are stone steps leading down to a year-round flowing spring and cistern plus a gravel walking path that leads down to a clearing next to the creek. Walking down along the fence will take you to over 500 feet of the Stillhouse Branch of the Leon River. The creek is not large enough for swimming, but there are fish to catch. The creek-side clearing is a wonderful spot for picnics.
There are two outdoor security cameras, one on the front doorbell and another in the carport facing the street. The doorbell also has a microphone for talking to people who come to the front door. There is no active microphone on the carport camera. The carport camera does NOT have a view of the pool or backyard. We occasionally monitor the cameras for your safety and the safety of our property.
