Summary:
The Nord Star is a 2800 sq ft geodesic dome perched above Lake Superior. Situated on water's edge with a rocky 200' shoreline and views of the lake. Minutes away from trails (crosscountry, hiking, biking), state parks, and rental businesses. Lutsen Ski Resort is a 20 minute drive. Perfect for family gatherings or groups of friends coming together!

Please note: A 4WD/AWD vehicle is needed to avoid issues with the steep driveway IN THE WINTER. The driveway is only plowed above 3".

The Space:
The Nord Star features a floor plan that is perfect for a large group. The dome comfortably sleeps 9 adults in 3 rooms with king beds and 1 room with a twin over queen bunk bed. The main level features the kitchen, dining room, sitting area/living room, deck, full bathroom, and two king bedrooms. The kitchen, dining room, and living room all boast views of Lake Superior. The upper floor is a loft with king bed and en suite bathroom. The lower level has a living space and bedroom with a twin over queen bunk bed. Enjoy the lake views from the upper or lower deck.

Guest Access:
Guests are provided with a unique code by the owner prior to the start of the stay. Please note: A 4WD/AWD vehicle is needed to avoid issues with the steep driveway IN THE WINTER. The driveway is only plowed above 3". We will not be held responsible for paying/coordinating/arranging for assistance.

The Neighborhood:
The Nord Star is located just outside of the towns of Schroeder and Tofte. Schroeder Bakery, Bluefin Grille, and Coho Cafe are all within a 15 minute drive from the dome. Small markets, coffee shops, and rental businesses conveniently located nearby.

Getting Around:
A car is required to enjoy the area. Please note: A 4WD/AWD vehicle is needed to avoid issues with the steep driveway IN THE WINTER. The driveway is only plowed above 3". We will not be held responsible for paying/coordinating/arranging for assistance.

Other Things to Note:
The upper deck has a gas fire pit table that seats six people. The lower deck has a wood fire pit with chairs to seat 10 people. The beach is a rocky shoreline.

Incredible

Where to start? The property was incredible and the dome is stunning. We hosted our close friends for our elopement weekend and it was the perfect place. The beds are comfortable (best night of sleep ever) the rooms are beautiful and clean, and the living room spaces are large and fit a group of people well if you’re just hanging out. The outside shoreline is beautiful and being able to hear the waves crash was so peaceful. Overall the property is well maintained and you can tell a lot of love and work has gone into making this a peaceful getaway. I will say make sure you plan a trip to Costco or target in Duluth before making your way up to save you some time or last minute trips to the Tofte general store! We would absolutely stay here again.

Great Stay and Hope to Return

This is a great property in the top of its class and a prime location for exploring the north shore. Well setup for 1 or 2 families with two main bedrooms on the main floor then a kids' bedroom that sleeps 4 in the walk-out basement. Can flex to three families with the big bed in the open loft and extra sleeping options in the basement. Also great for a multi-generational visit. Perfect setup for kids downstairs with a TV and room to play, while adults hang out upstairs. Right on a cool rocky shoreline both kids and adults will love to explore. Wood fire pit on a deck in the backyard. Gas fire pit style table on the deck attached to the dining room. Well appointed kitchen with new appliances and all the amenities you could need. House is just beautiful. Access to a garage; also 40amp level-2 EV charging. This house has it all. Whole family loved it.

Great family vacation location!

We loved our stay at the North Star with extended family! Most everything we needed was available, including a fully stocked kitchen with all the appliances we could ask for! There were great spaces for our family to gather, watch movies, enjoy a fire and play board games. We had a lot of fun splashing in Lake Superior, just steps from the house. The beds were really comfortable as well, including the separate space for our kids. The location was also close to lots of hiking locations and activities. It can get a little hot without air conditioning in the dome. Also, I’d recommend installing some larger rocks to safely step down to the beach, as some of the smaller rocks were loose. These are small issues, as we greatly enjoyed our stay!

The dome

This is a great property. It is right on the water of Lake Superior. Every morning the lake was a little different and we happened to be there during a full moon with the reflection on the water. So beautiful. The house was well equipped and easy to find. We had a great time. It was our first time to the North Shore and I am sure it is not the last. Thank you!
