I feel torn giving this place a bad review, because had things gone to plan it would have been a lovely stay. The house was beautiful, the grounds were gorgeous, the pool and the fire pit were both appreciated and used. However, about halfway through our stay, the power went out. Three people came to check our circuit breaker, and determined it was an area power outage. They left with the promise to return with a generator. Instead, the property owner herself turned up, unannounced. She insisted my whole party get into a van and drive to her personal guesthouse down the road. I tried multiple times to say no, but she was so insistent we pack up our things that it got uncomfortable. Several people in my group were so uncomfortable that they left immediately rather than get into this woman’s van. I don’t blame them. When we arrived, her personal property was lovely and well maintained, but there simply wasn’t enough room for our 8 person party. When I asked where we would sleep, she said we would have to make do with the sofa or the floor. This is not what we signed up for. This is not what I paid for. I insisted she drive us back. The property was still dark, of course, since they never brought the promised generator. We tried to salvage the mood but overall the detour was so extreme and unexpected that it ruined the experience. What’s worse, apparently the power goes out in that area all the time, and they have no plan in place to ensure guests comfortability and safety. Beware too, of Vrbo customer service. I called immediately after our experience and all they could do was tell me what I SHOULD HAVE done (not helpful) and say they would ask the owner if she could find it in her heart to refund any of my money. The woman who insisted that 8 people pile into a van and drive with her to house, and would not take no for an answer. Needless to say, I have not received either a partial or full refund, and I don’t expect to.
