The Local Area:
Burneside is a small village to the north of Kendal, the gateway to the Lakes! It began life as part of one of the large Westmorland estates and began to grow into a village with the opening of a woollen mill in the mid 1700's. This was converted to a paper mill in the 1830's and then leased to James Cropper in 1845. James Cropper then took full control and expanded the mill in 1854. The mill still bears his name and continues to produce high quality paper and packaging as well as advanced technical fibre products. The village still retains it's small village feel and many of the residents still work for Croppers. The Studio was built in 1994 by one of the engineers from Croppers.
Lake Windermere and the Lyth Valley are a 15 minute drive from the property and Kirkby Lonsdale which is on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park is a 20 minute drive away.
