Palagnedra is a wonderful little village with numerous interesting touristic sights.
During the Middle Ages, Palagnedra was the administrative and religious center in the 13th Century Centovalli valley community. In the 16th Century it became part of the Locarno and Ascona region, followed by the bailiwick of Locarno. In 1864 the village became independent.
The 80-meter high railway viaduct is also a major attraction of the village. The famous Centovalli Railway crosses here the Isorno River. At the former mule track, Intragna-Remagliasco, you will find a beautiful stone bridge, Ponte Romano, also called Roman bridge. This bridge was built in 1578 and is the oldest bridge in the region. The Melezza River flows under the bridge.
An interesting collection in the regional Museum of Centovalli and Pedemonte gives insights into the history and traditions of the region. The collection is spread over three floors and 21 exhibition rooms.
Finally, an exceptional four seats cable car ride awaits you in Intragna. The first stop is Pila, a characteristic cluster of old houses and renovated ‘rustici’ on a sunny green terrace overlooking Intragna the gate of the Centovalli. A far reaching labyrinth of trails invites to walk and explore the terraced slopes of the former vineyards and the stony stairways and paths that connect the houses. The final stop of the cable car is in Costa (637 m). Just beside the station a “Grottino” awaits you, where you can rest being seated at a granite table, eat a local dish and enjoy a panoramic view on the lowlands of the Pedemonte and all the way down to the Lake Maggiore.
Costa is a great gate away for a hike to Monte Comino, from where one can return down to the Centovalli to Verdasio with another cable car. Both cable cars usually run from March until mid-November.
We recommend travelling to the property by car, as there is free parking on premises.
