Dating back centuries, it sits on the cliff and can be seen from further afield. Only a few hundred yards away is the restored Metro station which is nicknamed the ‘Covent Garden of the North’ and is home to a very interesting weekend indoor market popular for all ages. You can hop on a metro here to Newcastle and take in the quayside or visit a theatre, gallery, and museum or enjoy the history and shopping.
Tynemouth is close to a great road network which will takes you in all directions over to Hadrian’s Wall in the west of the county or north up the stunning heritage coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where there are more golden sands and castles to explore.
