An "Off The Grid" Home on The Hill - The Otway Weekender

A country home away from home on the door of The Otways. Set on acreage on top of Elliminyt Hill, this gorgeous newly built property has views to die for. Enjoy a BBQ on the deck while soaking in views of Lake Colac & surrounds. 25 minutes to The Otway town 'Forrest' full of mountain bike trails. Hit the road & sample the region's fresh produce, wines, beers & treats along the Otway Harvest Trail. Stop into Warncoort & Birregurra or drive to the coastal cliffs, beaches & mighty 12 Apostles.

Our home boasts some amazing features throughout to make you feel at right at home.
- our home is able to sleep 8 guests, 3 bedroom plus a fold out double sofa
- 2 bathrooms & bath
- full functioning kitchen to cook your favourite meals
- lounge room, sofa chairs, bean bags, smart TV with Netflix & Foxtel
- massive deck, BBQ & dining table & extra comfy outdoor seating.
- full laundry (washing machine & dryer)
- travel baby cot & high chair available.

We took on the challenge of a "owner builder" build. My gosh what a challenge it was. The build commenced in May of 2021 and was completed in December 2022 right before Christmas. The last 2 years has been difficult for the world yet not knowing exactly what we were in for, but we pushed on to build our little country escape. We've designed the house around an "off the grid" concept but the last piece for completion is the batteries. Our particular battery isn't released here in Australia yet, but due to arrive in the second half of 2023.

We kept the environment as a main factor in the build we've been able to maintain a rating above a 6 star energy efficiency. We've been able to achieve this through,
- highly energy efficient white good appliances.
- LED lights throughout.
- A massive solar array.
- Rain water tanks (mains back up if required)
- Upgraded Wall, Roof and Floor insulation.
- Recycled materials where possible.
- Grey water irrigation system

The kitchen will allow you to cook a feast with the latest appliances. A window splash-back with LED strip lighting shining on the benches below. Your favourite meals will be a breeze on the latest Bosch induction cooktop, while at the same time being entertained by the northerly views. A generous island bench which seats atleast 4, a great meeting point while gazing straight through the tree tops in the distance. There is a brand new Nespresso coffee machine available for use with a small selection of coffee and hot chocolate pods available. Please feel free to purchase your own 'Nespresso' compatible pods. Guests also have access to a small selection of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and sugar sachets for your enjoyment. A brand new double door LG fridge is available for guests use, this will also provide you with ice cold drinks dispensing filtered water and ice from the door, it is easily refilled by topping up the tank inside the fridge.

You can expect in the master bedroom, a big comfy king bed with a large walk in robe. Your own ensuite with endless fresh water from the large shower rose. There is also direct access to the deck through the sliding doors.

In the second bedroom closest to the living room features a king size bed with built in robes. The room also has its own split air conditioning and ceiling fan.

The end, third room has a generous queen size bed with south & west window views. It has its own split air conditioning and ceiling fan also.

The fourth bed can be found in the living room where there is a fold out sofa bed. This is equivalent to a double sized bed with linen provided (this is located in the linen press in the laundry).

Sit back, relax and unwind in the main bathroom's free standing bath. Let the natural rainwater de-stress and unwind with the calming sensory benefits of our oversized shower.

There's also a study nook for those may need to work on the run. A direct ethernet port is available although the wifi is perfectly sufficient . There's a printer which is connected through the wifi network, spare paper & ink cartridges in draws below.

The Laundry consists of a front loader washing and dryer machines. Both with a 10kg capacity, you'll never run out of clean clothes again while on your stay. Super easy to use, there's washing powder provided in above cabinets.

The smart TV is simple to use via one click operation. Stream your smart phone straight to the TV once on the Wifi network. Foxtel is included via HDMI 1 and we also have Netflix for your enjoyment. Netflix can be accessed through Foxtel, or directly on the Samsung's home page under Netflix.

Fabulous!

Exceptionally clean, spacious and comfortable house with an enormous deck and great views. Matt and Sarah made sure our weekend stay was wonderful. The Otway Weekender is the first house (in a long list of places we have stayed over many years) where we actually want to stay again.

Felt like a luxury hotel

Everything was clean and new and it felt like staying in a luxury hotel. Sarah and Matt were great with communication and even left us a present of fresh organic milk and pasta ! Couple of things to be aware of were some outside lights on the verandah that seem to come on and off automatically that I could not find the switch for and the gravel on the driveway can be a little slippery for a 2 wheel drive car to climb out of

We are a young husband and wife couple who after moving to Colac in 2020 experienced all that the Colac Otway region had to offer. Straight away we were hunting for some land to build a little getaway for our growing family. We now hope to share the joy our home and the region has to offer with others. Our favourite parts of the house include the gorgeous views from the enormous deck, the large kitchen window and stacker doors, the neutral and warm tones of the home and the Elliminyt hill views/fresh air! We love that the house is solely run off the rainwater and have gone to great lengths to ensure the best quality filtration system so that the water is pure and fresh! The solar system enables us to run all of the power and one day we hope to store this and be completely off grid. We hope that you love The Otway Weekender as much as we do!
