Welcome to La Casa del Professore (the professor's home)! This charming 4br/3.5ba 3-story rowhome is filled w/ character & comfortable, homey touches. Private back deck & large (for DC) back yard. Freshly redecorated for the 2025 Summer Vacation Season!
The convenient Eckington location is idea, whether you're visiting for work or to visit DC's many attractions. Two metro stops ~ ¾ mile walking distance & direct-to-downtown bus stops 1 ½ blocks away.
La Casa del Professore & SaltSugarFire Hospitality welcome folks of every color, creed, & walk of life and expect ALL of our guests to conduct themselves with kindness, consideration, & respect, regardless of your personal beliefs. We will not tolerate discrimination, hate speech, or violence.
This beautiful example of Queen Anne architecture was originally built in 1905 & renovated in 2010 as part of DC's early wave of restoration. It is the owners' home &, while it has been transformed for guest use, it's furnishings & contents are theirs & bare the signs of being lived in and loved for many years. This is a home, not just a house.

• Two full kitchens: The main kitchen is stocked with/ coffee, tea, cookware, water filter + fridge water & ice dispenser, built-in microwave, brand new plateware & cutlery, kitchen staples, & more... The secondary kitchen is separately stocked w/ the basics.
• Large dining room w/ an expandable table for seating up to 10
• 3.5 bathrooms (½ bath on main floor, 2 full baths upstairs including an en suite w/ standing shower, & 1 full bath in the basement); natural/cruetly-free shampoo, conditioner, & body wash
• 4 TVS: 45" Smart TV in the living room; 19" TV monitor w/ Roku device between kitchen & dining room; 40" TV w/ Roku device in middle bedroom, 45" TV w/ Roku device in basement living room.
• Large, recently redecorated primary bedroom w/ en suite bath, lo-profile queen bed (firm mattress), high ceilings, huge windows, a desk overlooking the neighborhood, & plenty of storage

• We provide cotton towels in place of paper towels in an effort to reduce hospitality waste. Guests are welcomed to purchase or bring their own.
• SaltSugar Fire Hospitality offers compost collection service! Please notify us in advance if you'd like to participate.
• All toiletries, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, & consumables are selected w/ their ecological impact in mind. We use:
• Zero waste tree free toilet paper
• Ginger Lily Farm Botanics natural Aloe Vera toiletries
• Zero waste laundry detergent sheets by Clearalif & wool dryer balls scenting w/ lavender from the garden
Deep cleaning is not required but we ask some simple checkout tasks of guests:
- no need to strip the bed(s), simply leave them unmade
- load & start the dishwasher
- place used towels in the laundry basket in each bedroom or leave in the bathroom(s) to prevent damage to our hardwood floors
- collect your trash into the provided house bins
- make sure to return any borrowed SmarTrip cards, turn off lights & appliances, & close & lock all windows & exterior doors.

• I've partnered w/ several local professionals to offer an ever-expanding menu of extra services** including concierge services, personalized cooking classes, grocery provisions (stock the apartment with fresh ingredients and fun beverages), custom meal kit delivery, private chef and beverage/mixology experiences, mobile car detailing, local excursion planning, & more. INTERACTION
This is the owner's home. We are welcoming guests while they're in Italy for work. Jenna of SaltSugarFire Hospitality will be your primary contact & lives about 20 minutes away.
I'm available via messenger to answer questions, offer recommendations, or address your needs & by text or phone for emergencies (24/7).
THINGS TO NOTE:
• The entrance is accessed up a flight of stairs.
• 3 out of 4 bedrooms/sleeping areas are located up a flight of stairs. (Guests may not sleep on the living room sofa). The 4th bedroom can be accessed down several steps from the sidewalk OR by a narrow interior hallway. The twin air mattress + folding frame can be set up in the dining room for guests whose mobility limitations make stairs difficult but there is only a half bath on the first floor.
• The yard is accessed down a flight of stairs.
• We do not provide single use products in an effort to reduce waste (the hospitality industry is a significant contributor to our country is waste problem & DC, in particular, has a troublesome waste management system.
• We do not offer early checkin or luggage storage on site but our next door neighbors have graciously offered to hold bags for guests before checkin and after checkout. $10 for up to 4 bags/suitcases + $2/bag over 4 and $5/hour for late pickup/dropoff (you'll discuss the time frame in advance and this overtime rate applies if they must wait for you after your arranged times).
• For guests w/ allergies or sensitivities:
the previous renter lived w/ two large dogs so we may not be suitable for guests w/ severe pet allergies
some duvets & pillows are down-filled & we use fragranced cleaners. We have down-alternative bedding & can accommodate fragrance sensitivities w/ advance notice.

• This nearly 200-year old, 3-story rowhome does not have zoned heating/cooling & may experience unbalanced temperatures from floor to floor & room to room during the hottest & coldest months.
HOUSE RULES
• No parties, events, or gatherings. If your visit is to celebrate a birthday or any special occasion, please let us know in your message, even if you do not plan to host it at the house.
• No weapons are permitted on premise for any length of time - a weapon is defined as any mechanism that can be used to fire a projectile. This includes, but is not limited to: standard firearms, air guns, self-defense/deterrent devices such as tasers, ammunition of any kind, and imitation firearms.
• Guests are not permitted to have undisclosed visitors (anyone not included on your original reservation or otherwise approved in advance by your hosts) on premise.
• # of guests listed in reservation must be accurate prior to checkin.
• We reserve the right to refuse, decline, or cancel bookings by guests who are local to the DMV.
• If you are booking for someone else & will not be staying at the property, all adults must sign a booking agreement. The booking guest remains expressly responsible for the reservation & its guests.
• In accordance with the DC noise ordinance, noise levels must be kept under 55 decibels (the level of a normal conversation) between the hours of 10pm and 7am seven days a week. If we have to respond to a noise complaint by a neighbor or by law enforcement, you may be fined and your group removed from the premises.
• Guests may not alter or override the timer for the garden lights to extend their operation (10pm weekdays, 11pm weekends).
• Vaping & smoking tobacco or marijuana are NOT permitted inside the house. Guests who violate this policy will be responsible for the actual cost of remediation. Guests may smoke in the back yard but must ash & dispose of their fully extinguished smoking waste in the provided ashtrays (NEVER on the ground, in the garden beds, or flicked over the fence) & empty the ashtrays in the big bins out front at the end of their stay. In the District of Columbia, if you are over 21 years of age, you are legally allowed to smoke on private property, carry up to 2oz of cannabis on your person, & gift or donate (buying & selling is still illegal, as is smoking in public). That being said, please be considerate
• DC consistently makes it to the top of every list published for worst cities in the country for mosquitoes and bugs because it is built in wetlands and marshland, is surrounded by water, and presents the perfect combination of hot weather and high humidity. Mosquitoes, flies, outdoor bugs, and rodents are part of DC living & cannot be completely avoided or eradicated. Guests should keep doors & windows closed when not in use to prevent outdoor pests from entering. The presence of pests does not constitute or warrant a refund.
• No confetti or glitter.
• No beer pong
• Do not remove the protective mattress & pillow encasements.
• Do not sleep on the main floor living room sofa
• Do not send mail/packages to the rental. Package theft is a significant issue in DC & we cannot guarantee receipt.
• If you leave an item at the house after checkout, we're happy to coordinate it's return.
• Additional terms apply for stays longer than 15 nights (booking agreement, identity verification, security deposit, mid-stay housekeeping... full details will be sent PRIOR to confirming)
