Terrible Experience — Unsanitary and Unsafe
This was my first bad experience with Vrbo. But “bad” does not say enough about how bad it actually was. Terrible is more like it.
How terrible was it? Let me count the ways.
• The property reeks of urine and spoiled beer.
• The pictures you are looking at are photoshopped and are not at all representative of the actual property.
• The property was generally unclean throughout.
• The towels that were supplied on the racks were still wet.
• There was a load of wet laundry in the washer when we arrived.
• There was no top flat sheet supplied with the bedding. And since we were uncertain of the cleanliness of the comforter we were forced to sleep on top of the fitted sheet in our clothes.
• The rugs were caked with filth.
• There was exposed electrical wiring at an outlet that was missing a plug and wall plate in one of the bedrooms.
• The towel rack was falling off the wall.
• The hot water in the shower does not work well.
• The air-conditioning unit comes on with a very loud and startling boom every 20 minutes.
• The drapes were stained with who knows what.
• The back deck overlooks an alley full of grease and trash dumpsters.
• The security of the building is very poor. The doors are cheap and insecure and the security code to enter the building is the street address.
• I woke the next morning and had flea bites.
• The nightclub beneath the loft is active 7 days a week and obnoxiously loud.
Though we rented the loft for three nights we could not stay there any longer. It was unsafe and unsanitary. Had we not been occupied late into the evening with activities associated with a conference we were attending we would have left immediately and not spent the night. But we were in a pinch and made the best of it. The next morning we woke up, packed up our things, cleaned up our mess (leaving it nicer than we found it), exited the property, and checked in at the Courtyard Marriott down the street.
In spite of how bad our experience was, I offered to pay the owner for the night that we stayed but asked that he refund the remaining two nights that we paid for in advance. He refused to do that for us.
One would hope that the owner of a Vrbo property would provide his guests with a safe and clean place to stay (especially with COVID cases on the rise). This property and this owner are not that.
I take no pleasure in leaving a bad review because I generally give the benefit of the doubt, but in this case, let the buyer beware.
