Cottage on the Shore delivers everything it promises. It's spacious, airy, beautifully decorated, and super comfortable. The house is off a gravel road and down a wooded drive to the shore with no other neighbors in view. From the two story wall of windows in the main sitting area that look out on the ocean, to the first floor master bed/bath, to the comfy upstairs bedrooms, to the extemely well outfitted kitchen, to the roomy deck------you really can't ask for more from a vacation house. Our family (my husband, our two adult children and myself) enjoyed every minute there. We rented a kayak for the week from the property manager Nichole at Downeast Rentals and they delivered it right to the house--- and picked it up as well. We kayaked from our shore and spent happy hours on rocky shore walks---including walking to the little island that you can get to only at low tide. As for the general area, there are some good, easy hikes with great views right on Deer Isle and some fun local outings (the Friday farmer's market, Nervous Nellie's, Owl Furniture, to name a few). Acadia & Bar Harbor are about an hour & fifteen minutes away. The only (minor) caveat is about the limited food options nearby. We found only a few good restaurant choices right on Deer Isle and the nearest nice supermarket is a half hour away in Blue Hill. But the isolation (especially in Covid), the gorgeous scenery, the terrific house with the splendid view of the ocean, sky, sunsets, and stars, are just what we were looking for.
