It first began as a community for quarry workers who were transporting goods and livestock from Wales to England. The Clwydian range to the north and Llandegla Forest to the south surround this area, which is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village is split in half by the well-known Offa's Dyke footpath, and bikers of all skill levels use the Llandegla mountain bike centre.
