The property is situated about 2,5 km outside of Sant’ Antonio di Gallura in Sardinia on the Diga Liscia (lake) and is easily accessible with sealed roads to the front door. 15 minutes to Arzachena and 25 minutes to all beaches of the Costa Smeralda. It offers utmost privacy and is nestled discreetly amongst the trees and granite rocks with a complete sunset view over the lake that sprawls out in front of the property. It is particularly quaint (not small) and offers a truly relaxing and authentic break all year round.
Built completely in natural hand chipped granite stone with large timber beams and traditional hand-tied bamboo ceilings, all three buildings offer our guests the perfect setting in which to relax and unwind.
The main house has two bedrooms and two bathrooms (both with a shower and one with a large deep bath). The master bedroom has a double bed with an open fireplace for those who choose to come in the colder months, or who fancy a little bit of evening romance. The second bedroom has two single beds (that can be pushed together if required). The main living space is open plan with kitchen, dining and lounge area in one unique space. In this area there is a second open fireplace and the kitchen is equipped with a professional six-hob gas stove and large electric oven for those who like to entertain. The living area opens onto the external dining area where you will also find our external, original mud-brick bread oven. This is the perfect spot for breakfast overlooking the lake or sundowners admiring the sunset in the evening.
The first of the two independent houses (Casetta Laura) is located about twenty metres from the main house, nestled under a large wild olive tree. It has a double bed, a deep lions foot bath and hand shower, toilet and washbasin. It is equipped with a cast-iron stove for winter use and has a sensational antique juniper wood ceiling.
The second of the independent houses (Casetta Speranza) is a further twenty-five metres away and has breathtaking lake views from the double window. It is snuggled in close to a large cork tree and offers a delightful retreat for those who like to stay away from the main house and sleep in that little bit longer, free of other guests or family members (dare I say it). It has a double bed with a bathroom that is complete with toilet and bidet, a large stone shower and washbasin. It also offers a traditional cast-iron stove for those who love absolute romance. It is a little a larger than Casetta Laura, but both are very comfortable and have all that you need for the duration of your stay.
Without doubt the gem of the property is the magical Oak tree that started its life in the middle of a granite rock and has grown into a magnificent specimen, with an estimated age of five hundred years. Its branches extend to cover an area of approximately fifty square metres under which a number of granite tables were placed for local festivities. The tables were commonly used for the lunches of passengers on the local train that would stop close by. The tables are now only for private use, offering one of the most spectacular dining experiences in the world to those who picnic on the tables under her branches, and the train line is virtually inactive. During the summer season the little green steam train passes a few times a day as a touristic trip along the old tracks. This adds to the wonderful ambience that this unique location offers those who visit.
The property is fully fenced with dry-stone walls and cars can park inside the property with the gates being locked if required. The property is situated only twenty five minutes from Olbia Airport, thrirty-five minutes from Porto Cervo, twenty minutes from Tempio and Luogosanto. The beaches of the Costa Smeralda are twenty five minutes drive. The setting is rural with complete privacy and tranquility and rest assured it is THE place to remember who you are and to reduce stress levels and to aid you in keeping your mind and body healthy. The lakeside location and train line offer endless possibilities for walking, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and swimming in virtual privacy – the lake has a number of small cove like beaches where one can enjoy the sunshine and the cool water without having to get in the car.
The property has been restored with precise attention to detail and in utter respect of the traditional Sardinian rural houses, yet at the same time is equipped with very discrete modern technology ensuring heating throughout (electric heated water cast iron radiators in all areas of all houses), large hot water reservoir, large water tanks and septic toilet system, as well as internet (for those who just like to sneakily stay in touch with the outside world).
