A very relaxing stay
We had a lovely time staying at the old post office, it's a charming and stylish character property with the additional modern trappings one might hope for whilst relaxing abroad. Luxuriant bathroom, TV room with large DVD collection for a cosy film night, study area, roof terraces with calming views, BBQ house for cooking and eating alfresco, and a great fun kitchen to cook in if you want to eat indoors beside the genuine original shop counter now dividing the kitchen / diner. In addition of course there was a lovely garden with a large variety of fruits and flowers, many of which I was not familiar with but enjoyed studying nevertheless.
The surrounding area was also a pleasant surprise, and the house provided a good base from which to pootle off and explore nearby villages and towns, also luckily with the islands only two sandy beaches a couple of mins roll downhill in the car, we always had an option to swim in the sea or eat at the local marina for lunch or dinner if we fancied it.
We have subsequently recommended the house to two sets of friends both of which told us they had a great time, one colleague of mine stayed for the second week of his honeymoon after staying in a luxury hotel in Funchal and said he had a great time with the BBQ hut and it made their trip.
We are planning on returning next year to the Island with some friends and would be more than happy to stay at the old post office again.
Lovely traditional Madeiran house
We had a wonderful time at your lovely home in Arco da Calheta, such a fascinating house and with lovely views and always somewhere to sit in the Sun or shade. Plenty of room, in fact so much so that we didn't ever visit the second lounge! Every utensil we could have wished for was supplied so we were able to eat in or out as the mood took us.
Ezekiel and Anna, your representatives in Madeira, were excellent and everyone we met was so friendly and welcoming – we will certainly go back to Madeira again.
We had some excellent meals out during our stay and our favourite restaurant was the Cantinho da Magdalena – their Paella was one of the best we have ever eaten!
We walked a different levada each day and it was amazing how each had a character of its own – so nice to be able to walk deep into the countryside yet walk on the level.
Thanks again and we wish you and Karen well.
Dear Jane and Steve
we are delighted you enjoyed our house and the island.
all the best

We had a lovely holiday at the Old Post Office, it was great to have such a well equipped kitchen which has been the best so far in all the houses that we have stayed at in Madeira. The beds were very comfortable all the rooms are simply furnished with a splash of colour in curtains and cushions.
The house was cold however in the evening during our stay despite a heater being on in the television room, a wood burner would be better suited.
Watch out for rugs that are on slippery floors.
The view from the upper terrace was good with the Church tower and Sea views in the background, we liked looking at the stars at night too from this terrace. Drinks in the evening went down very well.
The outdoor BBQ hut was a treat and we had some lovely food cooked on it. Garden had some fruit and Banana plants (Bananas were on the Plants) and Avocado's and lovely flowers but we went in January and of course not everything was out.
In all we had a very pleasant holiday and good weather.
I'm glad you enjoyed our house but it's a shame you found it cold in the evenings. Madeira can be a bit chilly at night in January, even though you had good sunshine in the day. I'm a bit surprised you were not shown the various forms of heating in the house. There are portable electric heaters for the bedrooms; the TV room has an open fireplace, and there is a large Samsung air heating/conditioining unit in the main sitting room. I'm glad though that it did not spoil your holiday.
I'm glad also you found the garden interesting, with the various tropical fruit trees.
Perfect winter break to unwind
Our winter break couldn't have been better spent than in this stylish and well-maintained, well-equipped cottage with tropical garden.
During the day enjoying the sun (21°C on New Year's Day!!) on one of the roof terraces or in the garden, reading (the owners have a great selection of books), eating freshly picked avocados, bananas and custard apples while listening to the birds ... what more do you want?!
If you prefer a little bit more action: Funchal is only a 25 min. drive away (stunning scenery) and is a fascinating, charming town. Love it!
During the evening, taking your time for preparing a nice meal in the spacious kitchen and lying comfortably on a sofa in one of the two (!) sitting rooms, watching dvd's, listenig to music (a broad selection of dvd's, cd's is available & free, fast and reliable WIFI) or relaxing in the most beautiful bathroom you can imagine!!
We stayed 9 days - and our holiday cottage felt like 'a home'.
We hope to be back next winter!
Our regards to Ezekiel and Ernesto 'the local taxidriver'!

We are delighted you had a great holiday and appreciated the house and garden as a home from home. We hope you can make it again next year.
Many thanks, Karen and Edward
Fairy tale cottage with lovely tropical garden
We stayed in this beautiful cottage during our holiday in Madeira. It is furnished in typical madeiran style. You can enjoy the sun and a stunning view from the upper terrace.
The garden is nice and big with a big variety of tropical fruit trees. (bananas, passion fruit, avocados...) We really enjoyed using the barbecue room on some of the evenings.
The cottage has a great location. There is a lovely sand beach nearby, a good choice of restaurants and whale watching trips.
We really enjoyed staying in this fairy tale cottage and would highly recommend it for anyone planning a holiday in Madeira.

Thank you Andrea and Daniel. We're delighted you enjoyed the holiday and appreciated the style of the house and sampled some of the fruits in the garden. Madeira is a great place for getting to do and see a lot in a week; it sounds like that's what you did.

Great place to stay for young family
We had a fabulous stay in Madeira - it was a great time of year to go (late October / early November) - weather was still warm and it felt like we had the place to ourselves!
Casa Velha dos Correios was the perfect place for us to stay. We are a young family (2 pre school children) and we had a great time exploring the house and the garden with all the home comforts available to us (cot / high chair / cutlery / dishes etc etc) and the beach was just a short drive away.
We would love to go back!
Many thanks Margaret. I'm really pleased you had a good time. We always feel the house and the area are particularly suitable for young families, or larger family groups with different generations holidaying together, as the house is larger enough so that they won't get under each others' feet.
We look forward to your next visit, maybe in the Spring or Summer when the fruits in the garden will be different from those you had in the Autumn, and the flowers will be spectacular.
