I love the space and garden! They are living our dream! We spent most of our time hiking and the weather didn't cooperate...we had hoped to run into them and chat more. We hiked on Mt. Washington (Strathcona Park-Forbidden Plateau), Elk Falls Provincial Park, Strathcona - Buttle Lake area. The food at the Pub up the street was amazing and we also took time to have Fish & Chips in Campbell River. And the coffee shop up 19A was perfect location as we started each of our days! I can't wait to come back to Vancouver Island and explore more. We can't thank you enough for sharing your space with travelers. So much better than the hotels and tourist spots.
Jocelyn, we are so happy to hear you did so many things despite the weather! You two don't let anything stop you-I think you got to see some sights even we haven't seen. We promise to be available to 'take a hike' with you if you come back this way. And just for the record, now we are having glorious sunny fall weather and mushroom season has begun in the woods.
Relaxing Stay in a Unique Setting
We chose Red Roofs for its proximity to my 1950's childhood home . We would return to this cozy, creatively decorated cottage for many other reasons not the least of which were our warm and welcoming hosts, Georgia and Ron. The informal garden and its shade trees provided cool places to relax out of the sun; Georgia's artistic and uncommon use of common objects provided a visual treasure hunt; one could lie in bed and watch the stars in the nighttime sky; the beach was just a few meters away; and a handy corner store and neighbourhood pub were a five minute walk away. Peas that we were invited to pick grew right outside our door and we had barely settled in when we were given freshly dug nugget potatoes from the veggie patch. Delicious!. A barbecue as well as a number of lawn game were there to use if we wished. Maybe next time. Thank you, Georgia and Ron.
The perfect base to explore Vancouver Island
We stayed at Red Roofs of Royston for a week in July and can summarise our holiday in one word, amazing!
The HomeAway process for booking was simple and efficient and direct contact with the owners Georgia and Ron made it even easier as we could ask questions which helped us plan our trip well in advance.
Our hosts were wonderful and so accommodating. They made us feel very welcome from the start and were an absolute mine of useful information which further enhanced our time management. They also kindly invited us to help ourselves to the many fruits and vegetables growing in Georgia’s garden, which were all delicious.
The cabin was well equipped for a base station to explore the island and was decorated with an eclectic collection of curious and memorabilia which made it a very interesting and fun place to stay instead of a ‘jelly mould’ hotel room. You could even read a range of 1950’s to 1970’s news paper articles which had been used to decorate the shower walls whilst you freshened up.
The cabin is also perfectly situated with a pub which served very good food and beer a stones throw away as well as easy access into town or to the main roads for exploring the island further.
Access to the beach was just across the lane and you could walk all the way to the famous ship wrecks whilst watching dozens of bald eagles and herons catching their lunch.
In summary, Red Roofs of Royston is the perfect base to explore Vancouver Island as well as unwind and chill out after an exciting days touring, whale watching or hiking in the mountains.
We would definitely stay there again and would have no hesitation in recommending it to other explorers.
Cliff and Louise.
Cliff and Louise were lovely guests and we thoroughly enjoyed them. It was such a pleasure to host travellers who so enjoyed life and were so easy to strike up a friendship with. We would gladly have had them longer but hopefully they can visit in future. I hope your pictures are a great reminder of your holiday here. We have had a transient Orca in the bay here the last 4 days, breaching and hunting seals.....another reason to return.
Good jumping off point for lots of great local activities. Near the beach.
A well equipped funky cabin that felt like living in an antique store. Great hosts and lovely private garden.
Glad you enjoyed our funky taste and decorating and memories of my past. Come again anytime
Beautiful spot by the water.
Great spot with amazing hosts.
Tina we're glad you enjoyed your stay and hope that you're successful in finding a job out this way ... aloha.
Relaxing, comfortable and close to everything.
Georgia and Ron make you feel welcome surrounded by a relaxing green space. We would definitely stay here again. It's a charming little oasis.
So glad you enjoyed your stay and would love to see you again.
