A property not to be missed
We have visited this property for four years now and absolutely love it. It is extremely well equipped, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The master bedroom with ensuite bathroom is exquisite. The owners couldn't be more helpful or welcoming. There are lots of places to relax in the garden so it is ideal either for a group or for finding a quiet spot for a snooze or to read a book and we make great use of the pool too. One year we had a few days of poor weather and retreated to the games room for intensive table tennis. Being within easy walking distance of the shops and market in St Quentin is such a bonus - we buy fresh croissant every morning. Uzes is a beautiful town with lovely shops and nice restaurants. Having the bikes to explore the beautiful countryside is good fun and good exercise. I can't find fault with this property and always look forward to a return visit.
Happy with Sadoussant!
Absolutely ideal for us, as a family of 6, we were very happy with our stay. The villa (Sadoussant) itself was homely and well-equipped. We had a sumptuous modern bathroom with wetroom-style shower, Jack & Jill basins and a lovely claw-foot freestanding bath. Daily we made use of the pool during a hot (daily average of 35c) fortnight and the pool guy left us a nice surprise of croissants and baguettes on Thursday mornings. The (gas) barbecue on the verandah overlooking the pool also served us well when dining at home (we swapped the larger dining table outside by the pool for the smaller terrace one, for our gathering). The sunbeds were very comfy and I also used the shaded picnic/tiled tables by the front of the house to do some plein air paintings whilst my wife read a book on the hammock or napped on the lovely day bed. (And thank you Greg, for loan of the excellent read ‘The Escape Artist’ which I borrowed from the bookshelves!) Villa location-wise, it’s just a short walk into St Quentin la Poterie, a charming town with a bar and a handful of restaurants, plus there are excellent food markets held under the central covered area and near the boules park. We’d also recommend the excellent freshly-made pizzas if you don’t fancy cooking or eating out, at ‘Pizza St. Quentin la Poterie’ (useful when you have teenagers in tow), that you pass en route to town. Naturally, potteries abound too and we came back home with some beautiful examples of the art from local potters. Just a 20 minute cycle ride away or a 40 minute walk, is the bigger town of Uzes, excellent for sightseeing, and teeming in restaurants, especially in the picturesque town squares. We hired cycles from ‘Village Velo’, who gave us an excellent service - especially important when my wife decided she wanted to enter a local cycle road race around ‘St Q la P’ on the spur of the moment, but VV were very accommodating! Another passion of our family is wild swimming and we were enthralled to find not only ‘La Pont du Garde’ nearby with its amazing Roman aqueduct (downside: hefty so-called ‘parking’ fees) but also the natural wonder that is ‘La Roque-sur-Cezes’, a labyrinth of waterfalls, gorges and crystal-clear waters, which we loved. We also canoed downriver from Cezes. All-in-all, a fantastic villa and beautiful spot in Languedoc-Roussillon, the owners were very communicative and responsive and showed us around on the day of arrival. We had no issues at all and left wanting more.
Great spot. V friendly welcome. Highly recommend.
Doug, Lynn and family could not have been more welcoming, charming and helpful. The lovely house is superbly situated on the outskirts of St Quentin, easy walking distance to shops and the characterful village. Nearby Uzes also oozes style and interest and is a must visit.
Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts and Doug was always on hand to deal with any issues/help. Quite literally in fact as he runs an excellent bike shop across the road that offers bike hire of all shapes and sizes at very reasonable rates.
There is much to explore in the region and the weather was glorious for all of our two weeks.
Would love to return one day. Thank you so much for making us all feel so at home and welcome. Superb job. Great holiday.
We had a fantastic stay, home from home. Excellent for two families with the lay-out of rooms. The property was just as described, plenty of shade and sunny areas around so you could all be together. The children loved the hammocks and bed outside to lay and read their books etc. There were plenty of crockery, utensils etc and the fridge/freezer was large enough to buy goods in for a few days!
Doug was a great host, able to arrange for us to go to learn how to potter for 2 hours! We ate at the restaurant/pizza shop just up the road, food was excellent! They even gave us a bottle of wine free! Also another restaurant in the village on the road Rue du Dr Blanchard, food was good on set menu. We visited a small village and waterfall(La Roque sur Ceze) that Doug gave us details of, Avignon,Uzes (the fete was on, so bulls racing through town), Pont Du Gard, went on safari at Camargue. Local market on Friday morning worth going to. The boys did quad biking again Doug gave us details.
We would recommend this property and if we went back to the area again would love to stay there!
I left my heart at Sadoussant
Many good reasons to spend a week or a month (as I've done) at this luxury villa but I'll give you five:
The villa: tastefully renovated, equipped, furnished including good beds in all bedrooms
Location: literally around the corner from the famous pottery village of St. Quentin la Poterie and the delightful city of Uzes only 4 km away
For kids & adults: swimming pool, table tennis, foosball, boules on site, tennis courts nearby
For cyclists: Doug's bike rental shop is across the street. Plasticized maps of recommended short and longer rides available
And bottom line--the owners: honest, friendly, bilingual, knowledgeable, hospitable, and dedicated to providing a great holiday service.
A wonderful, welcoming place to stay. We have stayed for 2 years running, which is not something we have ever done before. The house is really clean, well-maintained & well equipped throughout and I can promise it was thoroughly tested on the night of our daughter's 21st birthday (which it survived). Plenty of bathrooms so never a queue and it never feels crowded, if you want a bit of peace.
Close enough to be able to walk into the village - or hire a bike (talk to Doug!!) - (brilliant wine co-operative, small supermarket, bakers, butcher, bars and restaurants) so no need to argue about who drives home.
Also well situated for visiting Orange, Avignon, Nimes, Pont du Gard (just as starters) assuming you can drag yourself away from the swimming pool.
It was great to have a warm welcome from Doug & Lynne & they know the area so well, so can always come up with suggestions for what to do - if you need!
