We had a wonderful time in Jimena, a beautiful white village. The house is both convenient and beautiful, the terrace is particularly pleasant. We were 3 (2 adults and a five-year-old kid) and we felt perfectly at ease. We went to the beach every day (30' drive), we drove to Cadiz, Sevilla and Ronda : the location of the house is very interesting. To sum it up, we had a great time in a great house!
We loved the town of Jimena when we stayed there this February, but this house was a disappointment. Spain was experiencing unusually cold weather at the time and the house was very pooly sealed with large cracks around the windows and doors. We were very cold. The temperature in the mornings was 11C in the bedroom. Several appliances were not working, kitchen counters were really gungy, and the owners had left personal items throughout the house.
Perfect property for 2 people wanting a real Spanish village. Spectacular views from the terrace and more than enough shops, bars, restaurants to meet your daily needs. Coast still not far away if you want it but there is more than enough to do locally. Some fabulous walking in the Natural Park. Definitely recommend to those who want peace and tranquillity in a small friendly village.
The property was clean and as advertised. Sun is available on the top terrace
from sunrise until it sets behind the Moorish fort - being refurbished. (Sun shade available). When windy, the BBQ is best not used. House is comfortable and kitchen stocked as you would want. Music system could do with up-dating but we listened to Arabic radio stations - for a change. Internet worked fine in most areas. If hiring a car, make it a small one as JImena's streets are narrow. Comfortble bed with a/c if required. Typical temperature this week was mid 20s.
Lots of couleur local with bread, fish, gas bottle vendors arriving daily in vans around the village. (try the fish van outside supermarket Ruiz Gallan). Some excellent restaurants/bars. Try Casa Henrietta for evening tapas and L'Estacion at San Pablo watching the trains go by (sometimes). By walking you can discover the small, signless local shops incl baker and pizzeria near to the house. 45 mins sees you on the beach at Torreguadiano/Sotogrande or 70 mins to Tarifa. Gaucin to the north is worth a visit.
JImena is a great place to enjoy local Spain without the lilos. It's small and you begin to recognise the (friendly) locals after a few days. The house is up the hill but you get used to the inclines and it's good exercise!
We enjoyed a wonderful week in this fantastic house. The house itself is beautifully decorated with all necessary amenities, and the views from the very private roof terrace are stunning. The village is traditional and full of character with lots of bars to enjoy tapas in. The house is an ideal base for exploring Gibraltar, Jerez, Rhonda and the white villages. Definitely hope to return!
We enjoyed our week's stay in this charming traditional house in a quiet street in Jimena up near the castle. The view of the hills and surrounding countryside from the bedroom window and the top floor terrace was beautiful. The house was very clean, well equipped and comfortable with attractive antique wooden furniture. It was well located for us because we did a lot of walking in the Alcornales natural park and some of these walks could be done straight from the house. Our favourite restaurant was El Anon which was very close by (but required a steep climb back up the road after dinner!).
