Great relaxing place
We loved this place. Very nice clean house and quiet neighborhood. Great for entertaining on patio with pool. Owners were very accommodating and attentive. We will be back
So glad to hear you had a great time; we loved seeing everyone enjoy the space and look forward to hosting you again!
Fun family adventure
My 4 and 7 year old loved playing with the dogs that live on the property, as well as feeding the chickens, seeing the eggs the chickens laid around the property, and they especially loved swimming in the natural swimming pool with the fish and the lilypads!
Country Escape - Great Value
The Dome was a very relaxed country home. We were allowed to decorate for the holiday and have multiple guests over for dinner. Renters need to be aware that the chickens/roosters will wake you starting around 4am and will call out most of the morning. We got used to it quickly, as fresh eggs were the reward! The washer and dryer are outside in a shed. Accessible, be prepared to share it with all tenants on the property.
We had an unexpected pet sitter walk into the home unannounced to feed the animals, which we believe was a miscommunication between the pet sitter and the owners. This was cleared up quickly. We never felt unsafe during out stay. The cat needed tending, so we adopted it into the family because it was very cold outside at night. Bonus: We enjoyed the cat, he was very loving and friendly. The owner’s dogs are sweet and friendly. I’m scared of dogs and had no problem becoming quick friends with the dogs.
Be mindful of the septic system, it backed up once - which was most likely because we had several people over for Christmas dinner. The owner was very responsive and cleared the issue quickly. Thank you!! The owner also accidentally assumed we were gone for the day and shut off the water temporarily for some maintenance until we found the owner. The owner also responded very quickly to restore the water.
We appreciate the owner responsiveness to the issues, and hope that future renters will benefit from what the property has to offer. It was a good home to escape the city, and it was close to the mountains and desert. It was central to all the activities we wanted to enjoy. Shopping was close, we went hiking in the nearby Anza Borrego desert. We also toured San Diego a few days. It was a super value.
Thank you for sharing your Dome!
Unique and homey!
The owners are very accommodating. The dome is a beautiful, private oasis! Loved our stay here!
Thanks for staying with us, Lucinda and family! We really enjoyed having you and are glad you had a great first SoCal experience!
The Hippie Homestead is Out of Sight :)
I could not be more pleased with our visit to the Dome Asylum! Dawn and Wylie were incredible hosts; we were coming from a good distance and I was nervous about arriving too late. Dawn met us at the gate and took us all over, making us feel right at home. I had requested breakfast for Saturday and the next morning, they made us a breakfast fit for a king and queen with fresh egg and veggie omelets, thick toast, and homefries. The scenery and ambiance were relaxing throughout the stay (Friday night through Sunday morning). I wanted the trip to be relaxing, especially for my boyfriend, whose birthday we were celebrating. I requested the hot tub and Dawn and Wylie showed me how to use it. Once we got in, we didn't want to get out! We enjoyed foot massages on the warm rocks in the hot tub and were entertained by the fish and floating plant life in the all-natural swimming pool. The house itself is wonderful (after all, how could a dome be otherwise?) and cozy.
The town of Ramona is a hidden gem; the drive up Rt. 78 is curvy, following the slope of the mountains. Once in town, there were plenty of interesting shops and little eateries (shout out to Pepe's for some of the best tacos we've had in a while and to the BBQ place down the block!) but the Hippie Homestead is a perfect oasis for tucking away with store-bought eats and not going anywhere the whole time.
If you want a relaxing spot to visit, here it is!
Interesting place to stay
This was very homey and very ecclectic. The home was comfortable. Keeping blinds and windows opened or closed really helped moderate the temp inside. The kitchen window looked out at a hummingbird feeder and pool stocked with goldfish and aquatic plants. We enjoyed having morning coffee or an afternoon nap in the cabana. The owners have planted various cacti around the property and at times it seemed like we were staying at a botanical garden. The landscaping made the property very private and relaxing. It was a 5 to 10 minute drive to Ramona. While the 2 turkeys and 13 chickens added a rural feel, the roosters did start crowing around 5 a.m. or even earlier and they left droppings around. That said, the four of us really enjoyed our stay here.
