lovely house in a beautiful area
We really enjoyed our stay at Rock Cottage - a really lovely, unique property in a lovely, fascinatingly different area. The only issue we had was that while it is marked as in the Lake District, it is actually a bit of a ways out. We made the most of it, and had a lovely walk along Morecombe Bay one day, but it is worth noting. Also worth noting that driving there is not for the faint of heart (one lane roads). One nice surprise was the wonderful Storth village playground around the corner.
Over priced for the standard of the property
We have stayed in many lovely cottages in the past and although this is also a beautiful cottage in a fantastic area a few things needed attention. On a positive the bed was extremely comfortable. However there was a water? Mark on the bedroom ceiling that needed attention, the plate rack and toothbrush holder were filthy and the towels had seen better days. The dining table top was not screwed to its base and easily tipped up!! We also have a cottage garden but the patio area still needs to be weeded!! The cottage felt a bit run down and unloved.
Okay but a bit small and dark
The cottage is in a beautiful area with lost of interesting walks right from the doorstep and combined with many interesting geological features make the cottage a great base.
These sorts of reviews are obviously somewhat subjective and I'm sorry to say that we found the cottage on the small side and a little dark. I guess this is only to be expected for an old fisherman's cottage, but since it is built against a rock face there are windows on only one side and no back garden.
The cottage is pleasantly decorated though there was a large stain on the bedroom ceiling and some flaking plaster on the stairway and flaking paint on the banister, which took the edge off it.
The galley kitchen has a very big cooker which occupies a lot of valuable space and the fridge has no freezer compartment which was a bit tricky as we brought some frozen prepared food with us. The property description doesn't say that there is a freezer so the assupmtion was our mistake - but worth being aware of in case you do the same as us.
From reading previous reviews there were a number of issues that were mentioned by others such as the condition of the garden furniture and the rather dangerous unstable dining table which were both unaddressed when we got there. The garden furniture was replaced while we were there however from previous feedback it seems that action is not taken in response Tom feedback leaving the issues to be raised by subsequent holiday makers, and personally I'd rather spend my valuable holiday time not being bothered with flagging up previously raised issues to the owner.
On balance we felt that while the cottage was okay, if a bit dark, it seemed over priced for the size and condition, hence the 3 stars.
Lovely honeymoon stay
Property was cosy and warm and kitchen well equipped. Situation was so very peaceful yet handy for lots of places including a pub in walking distance where the food was good. Loved the log fire. I took a star off simply because we had some sunshine but the outside furniture was broken and I was not a fan of plastic tablecloths inside and outside the property. Think dining table and outside table could be better quality but these are small things and we had a lovely stay
Thanks for your review Alison, and apologies about the garden chair. We had something much nicer on order while you were staying and just this week we received and added a lovely teak table and chairs, plus a teak bench for the lower garden.
Beautiful family hideaway - In the middle of the forest.
Love at first sight. The pictures do not do it justice. Be prepared to be wowed, it’s gorgeous inside. Slightly updated since photos on here.
Catherine the owner is so professional and kind, was happy to set Cottage up for early arrival. Great price. Warm and cosy. Easy to find. Beautiful decor. Fully equipped. Large bath, comfy beds. Lots of storage. Enough parking for two cars along the lane. WIFI is good. Tv is good size and lots of channels to pick from in evening. So unbelievably quiet. Large enough for family of 4 plus a dog. Lovely welcome basket.
It was such a pleasure to be so close with nature, we were fortunate to have sun, sun and sun in March. We hardly used our phones or iPads, so it was so nice to have a detox from too much tech. We walked through the forest, climbed trees and hunted for bugs.
People are ever so friendly and welcoming.
We drove down to the beach and spent a good part of an entire afternoon just jumping in the sand, (sinking sand but be quick to move before loosing a wellie) we havent laughed so much in a long time.
We took our little French bulldog and she was very content in cottage and enjoyed running along the beach.
We cooked as a family every evening in the cute kitchen. Love the oven :-)
We will be returning in the autumn, this is now our favourite spot to stay for short break away.
Thank you so much for a lovely stay xx
Beautiful cottage in a wonderful location
The property is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Great area to explore, lots of great walking, then wonderful to come back to the log burning stove!
