My Wife and I booked a week away to celebrate our belated honeymoon, and our 10 year anniversary together in an area she knows well from her childhood. We stayed in the smaller cottage on the property and found the cottage to be clean, neat and tidy when we arrived after a long drive from the UK.
We found the grounds to be rustic but well maintained, which was the kind of style and vibe we were hoping for. The cottage was well equipped with a good sized bathroom, a kitchen with all of the expected appliances and a good, comfortable bed. There is WiFi there, which we were not expecting, but was incredibly useful to avoid paying roaming charges abroad. A nice touch.
The cottage is situated by the road between Pradelles en Val and Lagrasse. This appears to be the main road through that part of the Corbieres so access to and from is easy and quick.
The cottage is fairly close (ten minute drive max) to Trebes via the D3 where there is a Carrefour Contact, Super U, Petrol Station and Pharmacy all within 100m of each other. Carcassonne is another ten minutes down the road from Trebes, where we spent a whole day going around the castle. The cottage is also near Lagrasse which was really an unexpected highlight of the holiday in terms of places we visited. A picturesque village with two Abbeys and tons of history to boot.
Whilst there are places to visit around, we spent just over half of our time at the cottage relaxing by the very decent-sized pool in the garden in the sun. Because of the peace and quiet there, we were both really able to relax and unwind properly. It is very dark at night there, so we were also able to do some star gazing, and see the Milky Way for the first time in our lives!
The only negatives we experienced during our stay was when we got there; the person who was meant to meet us there was not there, however everything was unlocked and ready for our arrival and we were able to get straight in. This did however add a little bit of stress to the end of a very long journey to the cottage. The other one was that the pool wasn't heated, which meant it was really rather cold, even on the hottest days we had there (around 30c). In spite of these things, neither were bad enough to take a star away.
The owner, Denis was absolutely brilliant throughout the process, very communicative, made things very easy for us, in spite of not speaking French, and I would recommend the property to anyone, you'll love it.
We loved our stay at Villefrancou. We stayed in Le Pavillion. It was very comfortable and so beautifully decorated. Very provincial French. It was a joy preparing dishes in the huge, well- equipped kitchen overlooking the swimming pool. The towels were lovely and the beds were very comfortable and clean! We spent a lot of time relaxing by the large pool on our deck chairs. During the evening we drank wine under the grapevines. We really enjoyed the quieter pace, enjoying the Languedoc, a region of vineyards and olives as far as the eye can see. The sweet, village of Montlaur is only minutes away and we enjoyed buying our croissants and baguettes there. The accommodation is also very close to the beautiful village of Lagrasse and its abbey. It dates back a thousand years and you will be totally charmed by its medieval cobbled streets and homes. We were very well looked after at Villefrancou and Denis provided excellent communication at all times. Our stay was the best week of our lives, I truly mean that!! We will certainly be back.
