It was a great house, we booked a week, it was as described. A quaint place to be snowed in, the heater worked well and it was not that drafty for 100 years old on a mountaintop.
Now for the rant about the water. It chemically burned my hands after four days of cooking and cleaning.
I wish the town of Berkeley Springs would stop poisoning their only tourist attraction (the "healing waters") with so much chlorine. We were told (by a town employee) the chlorine was introduced in high doses for the valley/pumping station, so that it could last the uphill journey to the new hospital, recently built. I had no idea that gravity or elevation impacted chlorine concentration. I wonder/worry how all the various spring water minerals react chemically to so much bleach in the water. Local resteraunt owners complained they can no longer make ice since August and several restaraunts have recently shut down. I don't know if town employees are purposely sabotaging the towns greatest asset to benefit the encroaching sand mine that keeps seeking blasting approval on the edge of town, or maybe the town is fighting some unspoken plague released by the August 2016 flood? Whatever the reason George Washington would be angered about what has become of his resort town Bath/Berkeley Springs.
You can also not actually get water directly from the springs anymore, all five main sources have been capped. A park employee at the roman bath told me the warm bath water is directly from a capped spring that fills the holding tank warmer for the 102 degree baths. This was too warm for our child, the cold water added was from a spout they said was chlorinated town drinking water. So even at the capped "source" the free water fountain gives chlorinated "healing waters", not directly from the spring.
Joe & Sam's house was warm and inviting. The moment we entered, we felt the charm and cheeriness of this lovely old house. For a turn of the century house, it is in great condition and very, very quiet. Our dog Annie enjoyed herself as well going for walks in the neighborhood. The whirlpool bath was amazing and although the beds are on the smaller side for us (we have a King at home), they were very comfortable and a wonderful rest after a long day. We would love to stay again!

We rented Berkeley House for a girls' weekend, and couldn't have asked for a better experience. The house is up a hill from the town's main thoroughfare, so it's easy to walk down to shop, get lunch, etc. The walk back is a little more challenging, but if you do not take the direct route, it's not too bad. The house itself is beautiful and clean, the kitchen reasonably well-appointed, and the WiFi worked great. The pool table was a real plus! I strongly recommend both the house and the town - the Roman bath+massage experience at the state park was fantastic.
This house is very nice and clean. It is a quiet section of town. It is within walking distance to the restaurants and shops down town.
I would definitely go back to the house.
The house is tucked away in a quiet part of town. We enjoyed our solitude and my wife even took advantage of the whirlpool tub and we played a few games of pool. The house is close to town, but far enough away to get away from the crowds. We walked the neighborhood. The house reminded me of the house I grew up in...many years ago. I would recommend staying here.
My husband and I visited Berkeley Springs for a week and were lucky enough to find the Berkeley House. It's beautiful, with vintage style furnuture to suit the age of the house. There are three levels, with the pool room (we had fun playing pool) and TV room with a pull-out couch on the lower level, LR, kitchen/DR on main level with a bath with jacuzzi for two, which my husband and I enjoyed VERY much. The two bedrooms and another bath are on the 3rd floor. The house was very clean and we appreciated the extra touches like shampoos and body washes, hairdryer etc. that were there for our use. There is a nice sunroom and an outdoor patio with glider and swing. The town of Berkeley Springs is cute and has many restaurants that we enjoyed. The house is within walking distance, but the area is VERY hilly! It's definitely NOT an easy walk back up the hill! The owner, Joe, was very responsive to our questions. Thank you Sam and Joe for providing such a lovely vacation rental!
